Chit Chit Chit.......... just copy and paste!!!

Looks similar to Davies Craig units, but claims to move more air (CFM) than the good ol' Davies Craig jobbie

Do you mean that model in particular or electric fans in general?

I've just replaced the mechanical fan on my van with an electric one, it seems to be working well and I'm convinced the van has more power because of it.

It's a bit of an act of faith, and I'm a bit worried about it causing damage to the radiator (they mount through the radiator fins, so with a lot of bouncing around they could cause a bit of damage) but it seems good.

I was happy with the price I paid for mine (ICE brand, on special in Autobarn), but in hindsight I would have at least looked at some other brands - you need to rely on it!

G'day Wartgames,
No, I meant that particular brand actually. I currently have the "normal" Nissan viscous fan running off the motor and in front of the air cond (in behind the grille) I have added a small 10" Davies Craig fan, beside the factory-fitted electric air cond fan. I can turn the 10" fan on whenever i like and it's purpose is to aid in the cooling of the radiator in hot conditions. However, I think 10" is not big enough (sounds like something a bloke's wife might say to him, eh??) and was gunna try and fit a bigger, 14" or 16" fan in there. When you look at the specs of the respective outputs (claimed), there is quite a lot more air pushed by a 16" fan than there is by a 10" fan.......And these ones on ebay claim to push a lot more than the Davies Craig equivalent.
The 10" one I have fitted present came with instructions and long bolts that said it was to be mounted through the radiator, like you said. There was NO WAY I was gunna be poking bolts through my radiator!!!!!
Instead, I made up steel brackets to attach the fan to available points on the front.
I would LOVE to remove the standard viscous fan and replace with one or 2 big electric fans, but I'm not convinced about their longevity to do the job solo if you are driving through water crossings etc. Having said that, my davies Craig fan has been dunked a few times and still works okay.

Would you care to elaborate please....have you had a bad experience with this particular brand? There is a heap of them advertised on ebay at the moment in various sizes.

Mate just buy an isuzu quality product, my rodeo work utes could idle for half an hour or so in 40 - 45 degree heat with aircon going and not get hot.
My jackaroos never get hot, just yesterday i had to go pick up a trailer load of furniture from down in Melb, ambient temp was 41 degrees, and i towed the load back into a very strong north headwind, for an hour, deliberately working it hard sitting on 110kph, with the aircon on full bore. Well the temp guage didnt move from its normal position, and the aircon didnt "do a Nissan" and die on me :-))

For some strange reason i just thought of you and smiled LOL...

Seroiusly, havent dealt with those particular fans, but you cant go wrong with the tried and true davies craig units.

G'day Bradley,
Thanks mate. As regards your Isuzu running in VERY hot weather and the temp GAUGE not moving...........this is a point I've been labouring on about here for many months. Not trying to have a go at you but anyone who thinks the REAL engine temperature is gunna stay the same whether they're driving on a cold day or on a 41oC day is not thinking straight (IMHO of course). I've proven this on my own vehicle by fitting an EXTRA gauge to monitor the REAL coolant temp in the top radiator hose. In case you've missed my findings.......The Nissan gauge will reach it's "normal" position (just short of half-way across it's arc) when the REAL temp is about 60oC. It will stay in the same position of "normal" until the REAL temp reaches about 110oC at which point it will start to rise. It will go from "normal" @ 110oC to just being outside the HOT zone on the right side of the gauge @ around 119oC.
So what I'm saying is that manufacturers build their gauges so that they do not move off "normal" until they get quite hot indeed. Basically, I don't trust factory gauges to tell me the REAL story.

G'Day Roachie,

Memory a bit thin here ....... but those types of fans - inlcuding the genuine ones, only work up to a certain speed. After that the pressure of air going through the radiator provides more cooling than the spinning fan, and so having the fan on may in fact decrease the cooling benefit.

Bit like an aricraft propellor spinning slower than the forward motion of the aircraft.

Any specs on how fast the blades are travelling??

Don't know if this helps but it triggered the memory

Regards

Rolande

Dear Mr Roach

Just remove 2t of add on C H I T from your machine, in particular the HID inserts which are radiating an extra 100F from where they burnt a whole in your wallet and you won't need this fancy new age electronic wind moving gadget.

Sir Diamond was right when he stated that Toyotas are perfect, so take the hint and get one and stop bogging the forum down with regular posts on how 'hot' Nissans are.

Oooh! Roachie, you are just gold. (ROFLMAO)

PS

Gods gift to 4WD's - The JEEP, is currently performing at the 100% level after spending the day in the workshop (Nissan multi dealer) having the EGR valve replaced. Dud Bosch design at manufacture apparently.

I'm just waiting in serious trepidation for the next thing to go Kaput on this technological marvel. LOL
