Gday folks, just purchased a 3L TD Patrol (not interested about hearing every man and his dog bag them out... I've heard it thanks). It's due a 80 000km service and I'm keen to get a Nissan mechanic to do it so I know it's cond. (still has warranty).
The closest dealer quoted "around $900". If anyone has a better price or option, pls let know.
Also if anyone has a recent pricing for a dual batt sys and/or a snorkel, it may save some chasing around. Thanks

Hi,

Sorry but I am going straight off on a negative for ya...Don't go to Nissan for a service - they don't know the car very well at all. The reason I say this is due to some ongoing issues with my GU4 - I had three services with Nissan - the 1000k, 10000k and 20000k - but for the 30000k I went to a 4wd service centre.

The mechanic found a loose Transfer case sump nut, missing sealant from front axles and confirmed my suspicions that a fault exists in my transfer case. A suspicion that Nissan continually reassured me was NOT a problem with the car......see thread id# 26482 even after four seperate visits between 10000k and 20000k.

I am now contacting Nissan to get this rectified finally and I must say putting it in writing has certainly earned me a much better response from Nissan "Customer Care".

Just my dissapointed two bobs worth.....

Hi.
Depends on the dealer.. If you live near Rocky..Qld.
Go to DC Motors. They do both of my Nissans. Servicing. Always charge LESS than quoted. and do things as necessary. without asking. and very often, not charging too. Or just cost of materials.
Recommend them to anybody.. Even Tojo agent sends hard to do jobs there..
best workshop I've ever had a car to.

Agree with which dealer you go to. We had a 5,000 service at Cairns, 10,000 at Gladstone. Both cost below $150.00 back in 2000. Our local here in Wodonga for a 10,000 service $276.25. Bargain! now I go elsewhere.

I took my '03 TD Nav to a Nissan Dealer with small oil leak on underside of turbo, got the car back 4 hours later saying it was a loose clamp...buggered if I know which clamp but there was still oil there...either they did nothing or they didnt even bother cleaning old oil off..pretty poor either way and I wont be returning there for the 50K service.

That sounds about the right price, if they do everything they say the have.

Repco will probably cost about two thirds of that.

I agree that 4x4 mechanics will do just a good a job or better. I had a quote for a radiator fix last week. $378 at NATRAD. $1300 at Nissan! It's their hourly labour rate which prices them out of the market. Ultra Tune for example do work which does not void the warranty.

ultra tune what a joke.
just to see how much better they were than the dealer i phoned them to price an auto service on the jack.
holden $240
ultra tune $350
tried them for a timing belt kit on a v6 magna.
mitsubishi $400
ultra tune $520
platnum plugs from mitsubishi $13
plugs from ultra tune $24

IMO Shirls, your query has little point - the distance between a dealers service quote and what they are capable of wanting when you pick it up is enormous ! They have turned this little "present the bill to the customer" pantomime into a huge industry scam. I have experienced this very thing - so have close rellos and hoards of others here............go accredited private............. a much more reliable punt ! You don't have to go to a dealer to hang onto warranty....just keep the paperwork from the accredited privateer. ......hey......I like the Nissan :-0) I nearly bought one.

Ultra Tune was just an example that you don't need to go to Nissan to keep the warranty valid. Yes I agree they are expensive.
