I have taken a transfer to Bamaga north Queensland and currently own a L3oo Mitsubishi Van 1996, could anyone relay experiences they have had with this vehicle and its performance in those types of conditions as would be experienced at the Cape, and or any useful modifications.
Thanks the imfo is limited

Gavin don't know much about the vans off road but the roads around Bamaga are Ok. If you intend to travel up and down the Cape by road the corrigations will eventually destroy standard shocks. Have fun its a great area.

Good luck! Great location!
We were there in July 2000 and Bamaga has sealed streets and ok roads - its just the road inbetween Bamaga and Cairns that has numerous corrigations - in fact it has so many corrigations it might make you swear!
Check all suspension and mechanicals before leving and take a sun hat

Gavin in 1995 we took our 1993 Mitsubishi L300 4wd to the Cape and back with no dramas (have enen done the Rig road of the Simpson Desert) the biggest problem may be the clearance - we had to take it carefully at some of the creek crossings especially if the ruts were deep - sometimes trying not to get into others wheel ruts. We went up the telegraph track most of the way and came back the corrigated road. We even convinced another couple in Cairns with the older version to give it a go and they did it also with no problems. We still have the same vehcile and set out in 2 weeks for Cape Melville NP and the Gulf for 3 months (what would we do without long service leave).
Take it easy and the old L300 will get you there - this is our 2nd one and would not choose any other 4wd as we have developed a wonderful set up over our 11 years of travelling. At least we have our bed setup inside if it rains. Let me know if you need any further info.

Read with interest your adventures in your Mitzy Van. I have a '90 Express 4WD Van..and would
like to set the interior as a camper (sleeping 2). Intending to do the Southern high country in
Spring and acroos to the Flinders after....Any clues and layouts as to how you have set the van
up both for comfortable touring and camping.
