Hi all

Anyone driven Monument Tk (up to Clear Hills Tk) recently? What sort of condition is it in?

Also, anyone driven Corn Hill Tk up to top of Mt Buller? What's it like?

Cheers, hope all had a good Christmas!

By now this weekend, Monument would be chewed to crap at the rocks.

Me and JohnR and a few others were up there last yr, and we could hear this BANG then a car revving its tits off, then BANG, for about 10 mins, sor Dave walked up there to see what was the blockage in the track...It was a bloke in a HIRED PAJERO, road tires who wouldnt turn around and go back even though 3 of his mates did. Apparently he had an 80 series that was in getting fixed, and you couldnt tell how he would get his deposit back on the car with square rims!

This was how it was when I got to it, after the Paj was finished.

The Monument Track has always been tough going up. That is why we always go around to the Craig's Hut rd and go up to Clear hills that way and come down the Monument Track. This has been a lot easer on the vehicles and also the track. If the track gets too chopped up it might get graded or worst still closed.
I did the track in November this year and will be back in January this year.

Sorry can't help with the Corn Hill Tk.

Jackthe Monument Track was rough but ok in April too but the rocks area will always be a bit of a test. One of the vehicles in front had to back up at one section and take another line. It isn't long enough really ;-)

Well I were up it in November and it was OK in my Patrol with a 2inch lift and 265's. Lucy the Troopy did it easy, a 100 series with a little lift did it easy also as did Crazie's Jack, lifted too. Depends on the line you take etc etc etc. We too like Truckster got held up when one guy did the wrong thing on the rocks, Ads and Al walked up to take a look while I stayed back and guarded the ladies hehehehehe Chivalry is not dead.

Went up Corn Hill track years ago, it was easy as winding Robbo up with a comment about a Jeep. You should be ok there. We evn met a learner driver in a Disco coming down.

Its nice up there, go easy and enjoy yourself.

I did the corn hill track a few years ago, wasn't too challenging, just had to be careful as it was a little overgrown with a few big logs on the side of the road. got really interesting from Howqua gap to the top of mount stirling, with a bit of care we got up, worst we did was ripped out the trailer wiring which was under the tow bar and some light scuffing on the spare. This was in the days of the LC80, Interested to see if the GU will go up!!!

Jack. In the dry Monument Tk is fairly straight forward for any adventurous driver & a 4by with reasonable clearance & wheel travel. There are several sections with loose rock & diagonal holes that require careful vehicle placement. In the wet it becomes very challenging at these spots & should be left to the experienced driver with good tyres to avoid damage.
Corn Hill track is very easy following the contours around to Mt Buller. Passable in a Subaru with care.
Cheers Craig...............

How did you go on the corn hill logging track, we had a world of fun going down it in the wet in Nov. Also getting to the river once down was another experience.

hope it all went well, he had some hairy times

Ads, did corn hill logging track in the upward direction from pikes flat. was dry so relatively easy, but i still thought it was a great track. actually, being on our own i am happy it was dry. i can only imagine that it is extremely tough in the wet (as would be the bumpy and boggy the 50 metres to the start of the track once you cross the river!).

Also thought 16 mile jeep track was great.

Cheers

Hey Jack2000

Its was pouring when we went and the 4wds, Jack, 2 100's slide down the big rutted hill, we were there just for the ride hahaha, yes did the 16 mile jeep track and the refrigerator track was also fun in the wet.

We had a crowd of about 20 people watching as we came down the last bit of the hill and then made our way to the river. Was fun getting to the river haha

I went down the momument last week after looking at Craigs hut, a fair bit of top soil has been washed away but easy to negotiate down, going up would be a bit of a challenge but doable if clearence is not an issue, plenty of exposed rock at the moment.

We were going to go to Swifts creek via the Corn Hill tk but was advised not ot with the camper.

I'd post a pic but the pics we took are at home on our laptop.

Baz.
