I have ripped music from CD's to My Music and play them via WMP.

Most of the songs have been ripped at high quality sound setting(I think) as their sizes are quite big (up to 14MB).

How do I compress these soings so that I can store more of them on my flash card?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Willem, you need to define what output quality you would like, ie it sounds like you have around 320kb/s selected (which is good quality/larger file size). If you change it to 128 or 192, you will still have acceptable quality, and reduce the file size significantly.

My personal choice when space is a premium is 192. 128 sounds just a little "tinny" through the speakers, and I don't mean beer!

Yes Jarse You are right.

I have all my music files in MP3 formay at 320kb's

Now, how to I change them to a lower rate from 320???

I have changed the setting so that in the future I can rip music at 192

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Try this site

www.tucows.com they have HEAPS of mp3 rippers as well as lots of other software - some is shareware / adware /freeware and so forth -- but you do have a very large variety of software

have a look around the site -- there is heaps on offer

I've been using Itunes for Windows (free download) at 160, and its sounded OK to me. About 6 Mb per song. All our albums fit on 8 CDs on the sunvisor.

All the best Willem,

Phil

I expect you need to re-convert all the songs at 192. Theres a box to select on most of the MP3 software.

Try downloading a program called dBpowerAMP music converter. It's very easy to use & will convert to any chosen bitrate, just a right click of the mouse button. It also allows you to tag & edit. It comes with a 30 day license but that is no problem!!!

Willem,
I use Nero 6. I think I know what you mean - that you would like to "re-encode" a 320kb/s to a 192 or similar, in order not to have to rip the CD's again from scratch. That's a pain....

I can't speak about other utilities encoding MP3 to MP3, but I know Nero 6 will do this. I keep 320's on my computer to listen to, and convert them to 192's to use on my Palm Pilot via the SD card.

In Nero, it's just a matter of re-selecting the required MP3 files in the "encoding" menu and away it goes.

Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

Ive gone the oposite, I record at 32Kps, sound quality is ok given that I generally play it in the 75 along with the road/tyre/engine/wind noise. No worse than recording from lp onto cassette. I've got tin ears so it suffices but the advantage is that an album is approximately 20mb and I can fit up 50 albums onto a cd. Play it through a pioneer. Works for me.
