Our Transport Minister in Victoria has announced that if we are good and done't get a fine in the three years prior to the licence renewal we will be rewarded by a 25% reduction of $3.56 a year. A 10 year licence is currenlty $142.40 and the reduction for the 10 years of $35.60. Wow. You can
check the fees at www.vicroads.vic.gov.au and get the *.PDF file but Vicroads has not caugh up with the Minister's generosity yet.
This is really big after they are now ripping out of every person in Victoria just $50.00 every week. When I say every person, I mean cradle to grave person, since Bracksie came to power. I guess we have to be happy??? :-(((

Heard it on the ABC (774 used to be 3LO) news twice this morning about the discount for "safe drivers". The $50 a week is the $7+ a day that currently goes to them additional since they came to power. That does include GST as a component of course but also the huge fines increase, the Stamp duty increases and property taxes where they tried to take some heat off last year.

this week pathetic refund on license...
whats next week, more Very Futile Trains to regional areas?
BTW - drove along the melb geelong fwy the other week, holy crappola, there are about a dozen new speed cameras, nearly one on every overpass !!!!!!!!!!!
me thinks i know how this latest bribe is getting funded :-))

No doubt you are right Bradley, but far be it for me to say so.
I travelled on the Warrnambool to
Melbourne train back in August. I thought it was stopping before we got to Newport station but we eventually got to Spencer Street Station. One woman in our section of the train missed her plane connections because we ended up nearly 50 minutes late. Never again, it was a good service under West Coast Rail. The government wanted to bring it back under their control and have stuffed up yet again. I like your Very Futile Trains handle.

The Government is picking up the tab every day of the week for all trains and it tends to be hidden right now with oll the hoohaa on VFTs that aren't.
I saw signs in Bairnsdale a few months back at the railway crossings about the re-newed need to watch for trains. The ones that were running again with about 11 people on when they get to Bairnsdale. I didn't see any actually that day on the train that passed slowly. I won't say what the subsidy is there.
South West Rail was getting a payout the same way but was showing profitability until the government wanted more service charges. There were undeniably more passengers back then which make
services worthwhile. Half of the passengers in the carriage when I travelled last on V-Line were V-Line people who all knew one another it seemed. SWR ran a business like service that was able to trade profitably until the government wanted it back.
