Well it had to happen I finally managed to get a small stake into my MFR tyres and instead of fixing it i reckon in the intrests of safety it could be time to retire them as they are well and truly stuffed. Only problem is I dont want to put my Toyo Opats back on - they are so crap one even went flat sitting under the tree.
Like they say "You know What You Want"
The only problem is the local Quote came in at over 1,300$ for 4 235x85x16
If I can get them considerably cheaper in perth it might be worth the trip.
Then it will be a matter of finding a replacement set of Tyres for my Split Rims
Thanks

I was quoted something over $400 each for 305's MTR's a while back. Nearly soiled my tweeds when it worked out to well over $2K for a set of tyres.

Let me know if you find a good deal. Dave at Tyrepower Booragoon (actually in Norma Rd, Myaree) might do you a bit of a deal but he specialises in Coopers. Let him know Dono with the V8 75 sent you.

Yowza Davoe,

Not sure if I can get them cheaper but I will ask, probably not till first week of the new year. I know they are a different size but I had 235X75X15's on my last rig and they only cost me $235 per tyre fitted, friend has 285X75X16's and these were around the $290 mark each. I will msg you when i have checked the price out.

A Bob Jane outlet in Adelaide quoted me $270 each for the 265/75R16 a couple of months ago. 235/85R16 should be a touch cheaper with a bit of luck. If you can get hold of a set of 16x7 Prado rims, you could run either of these sizes tubeless on your 80series.

We'd be interested of course in how they go in your neck of the woods. All the best for Xmas Davoe. It was great to see you out in the bush this year!

Cheers
Phil

I am unsure of the rim size i have but the 235s on them look a good fit so i suspect they are 6 inch , If they are any wider I will look at fitting 265s. I am not sure if going wider tyre sizes would give me performance improvements worth the added expense of getting a 3rd set of rims. I might ring around perth then try the local blokes and see what I can come up with.
I may be out that way again next year as my Sister and entaurage are planning to visit Via the AB and if the timing permits I will meet them at Neale Junction. Although my sister was put off a bit when I told her all the news was of severe corragations

Hi Davoe,

Your rims are the 16x5.5 splits which were standard on the 80series.

You can fit the 235's (like most people do) but some dealers baulk a bit because the rims are supposed to be 6-7 inch wide (they are anal-retentive).

Wider (265/75) tyres will give you a slightly better ride and will give you about 20% more kms. Downside is that they are a bit wider, and the fuel consumption will be a touch worse. 3rd set of rims sounds like its a bit over the top.

Cheers
Phil

Ah Havnt told you the full story. I bought those splits you saw and have
5 6" (I think) white steel wheels at home currently shod with Toyo Opats. i would be looking at putting the MTR tubeless onto these rims
and hunt around for another set of cheap rags for the splitties as bush tyres.
I was under the impression that 265/75 had the same rolling diameter as 235/85 - Is that not right?
Plenty of vehicles at work run 235s on 5.5 splits including some mtrs.
I cant see the point of putting radials on the splitties after talking to you and others but they work really well with crossplies.
I will be taking a month off next year sometime and dont trust the Toyos as well as doing to much variable driving (bitumen, beach etc) to use Rags so I am looking to get the MTRs on before then
