What are folks' experience with the combo spot/wide covers for the Lightforce lights? Had a chat on the weekend with an uncle and cousin who are running Lightforce 170s and IPF 900XS on their respective vehicles, and my cousin is very disappointed with the overall performance of his 900XS spot/spread combo compared to my uncle's Lightforce 170s. Scratch another potential light!

What's the combo spot/wide cover like on the 170 (or 240 for that matter?). Haven't got space for the 240s so I discounted them a long time ago, and am looking for a light that throws a good spread for corners on windy roads, so the availability of the clip-on filters for the 170s is appealing. My uncle reckons the spread on the 170 is good enough the way he has them focused, but he does more long distance outback driving and I do more windy Victorian roads, so I think the add on filters might be the ducks nuts.

Anyone using them?

I've fitted them to a mates Navara and he's wrapped.

Up in the hills you could put two spread lenses on and get a much better set of lights for what you want while still having the ability to change one for a spot for a longer straighter trip.

These lights are focusable too, so you can change parameters by more than just changing lenses. If you do more windy stuff a wide softer spread by focus adjustment will give better results.

Rock, what advantage do the light blue covers offer? I've seen them on the odd occassion, but wonder what the difference is. Surely its not just for show?

I've found the combo/wide covers great.

With the standard covers, I always found the light a little too strong and my eyes kept being drawn to the 'spot' whereas the combo gave a nice spread of light with a less distracting 'spot'.

Ditto, love em.. I have 240 XGS LF so can't focus the beam at all but one combo and one spot cover are just what the doctor ordered.

I 2 combo covers on my HZJ75

I used to have my 170s on a Holden TS Astra

I hit a big dog one morning on the way to work. It dented my bonet and I lost one of my covers. Went back there later on that afternoon and I found it in the grass in perfect condition.

I have a pair of 240 XGT's and use the spot combo lenses most of the time. I find the range of the spot is still good, out to at least 600mtrs, with a decent spread of light closer in. I now only swap over to the clear spots on drives with mostly long open stretches, but I hardly bother now, the combos do a great job all round.

Another vote for the LF170's with Covers.

I have combo covers , and they crap all over my IPF 900.

I run the new Hella Xenon Gas Discharge with one pencil and one spread beam. Works fantastic with the pencil reaching 750 metres down the road and the spread lighting up the immediate area. I will get flashed from the other side of hills when I can't even see the other cars light coming over the hill.
