Ok i found a weak spot in the rear door of the GQ's, the door that holds the spare wheel. Seems that if used on corrigations alot over time the bottom hinge pin wears out causing the door to rub a tad.
My question is this.....
Has anyone replaced the pin ONLY...seems Nissan only supplies the whole hings at over 100 bucks then ya gotta paint it too so would become an expensive repair.

I recall that commodores had pins and i have the tool to knock them out to remove the doors on them, Im thinking it can be done on GQ's too If someone knows where to get a pin from...any one replaced a pin ? or know anyone who can make 1 up.

Hope someone has stumbled across this one.
Ange.

Hi just a thought if you can get the old pin out an engineering or steel fabrication shop can make a new one probably for $10.

Many have tried to replace the pin only, but it has never been successful.

Why?
Seems like a simple enough task....use good quality steel and get it machined to the correct diameter. Should be a piece of urine.

Ange,

If you can get it out, I can get one made and harden at work but it will not be until the new year.

Searay27,
When you say you broke yours...What exactly did you break ? Do you mean you broke the pin while trying to remove it ? Or did you break the actual hinge somehow ?

yes broke hinge while heating and smashing pin out they are very tight but also might have been weakened by carring the big tyres on original holder.

Try a wrecker. No doubt you will find a good hinge around for very few bucks. Mine is starting to rust and will have to replace it soon.
