Hi All,

Have walked the Somerset Trail at Mt Mee (4hrs long!) from the Gantry day use area, but want to drive there via the trails, but I can't find it! I took my old man there and thought I new where it was however, took a few different tracks (great 4wd tracks :o) but couldn't find the one that goes right past the lookout, overlooking Somerset Dam & the valley. I normally have a good sense of direction (gulp!)...

Can anyone help me with directions from the Gantry area please.

Hi Turbo, couldn't find Mount Me southside! Mt Mee is situated Northside in the D'Aguilar Ranges out at Dayboro - sorry for any confusion. I'm looking for directions from the BBQ area (Gantry day use area) to the correct track that leads to the Somerset Lookout. GPS Coords would be a bonus.

Thanks for the reply though :)

Shawsie - I live at Dayboro and have found the Mt Mee State Forest map available through Forestry Dept in Brisbane City to be a worthwhile purchase. Very detailed! Unfortunately I am currently working in Toowoomba, so can't refer to my map in order to post a solution.

This is the GPS location of Kluver's Lookout at the SEQEB radio mast (Energex now?)
56J 470631 6990566
Fall Lookout 56J 469954 7004210 (both GDA94)

Only lookouts I could see. The falls is near the Gantry and requires a walk while Kluver's can be driven to. I've only ever been to Kluver's.

If you use Oziexplorer I can email you the Mt Mee Forest Reserve map. It is only about 3mb. It was scanned off an old and well used paper map but it works fine.

Hi Utemad - many thanks for the coords and please do email me a copy of the OE map to shawfamily@cbdnet.com.au
Were off down to NSW for xmas and then to Winton afterwards, but maybe in the new year we should get together for a social at the Gantry.
Cheers, Andrew

Hi guys,

I just sent the email. I'd be keen for a social. I've yet to meet anyone off this board other than David, Michelle and family. All the get togethers have been too far away for me so far.

The dirty weekends book has a trek through mt mee state forest. The directions past the gantry will take you out to the lookout and then back to the main track before leading you on to woodford. The whole trek is quite a good drive with a couple of steep sections just before you make it to the gantry.

Rick.
