I kicked the tyre of a new Pathfinder today (not a testdrive) I had always thought they were a little smaller than my 120 series Prado, which I think they may be just slightly, however, I was impressed with the amount of space available with the third row folded flat. Also at the versatility of the seating arrangements etc.

I've heard mixed reviews on these vehicles, but wondered if anyone here has driven one, in particular a Diesel...

Have a look on the Pathfinder Club of Australia website. There are a couple of threads on the forums.

I looked at one closely at the Melbourne 4WD Show - I thought my Disco had a lot of shoddy bits where the filler was smeared to cover the gaps until I saw the Pathy! Very ordinary. That said though, the price is pretty good as long as bits don't fall off the first time it sees dirt.

I'll be looking more seriously next year when my lease runs out as a new Disco is probably just too much.

If you take one for a serious drive I'd be interested in your impressions.

As far as build quality goes, thats one concern. Its built in spain or portugal, not Japan, so there is a bit of an unknown there... time will tell I guess, also why I asked the question to start with ..

Cheers

I tyre kicked and then drove the petrol and diesel. The petrol is more like a sports car in performance but i think thirsty. The diesel is awesome with 130kw and 400nm at 2000rpm. I really like them except the steering is very wired, it changes ratio at different speeds but i am not so sure they got the system spot on like BMW did as it feels strange. nice cars tho but you cant get the TI is diesel yet, the sales chick told me it was kind of a mis judgement on nissans behalf and that they were trying to get them here asap in the top of range diesels.

My mate Frank sold his dual cab 2003 Hi-lux TD and bought the new 2005 TD pathfinder.

He is very happy with it and loves driving it over the Hi-lux. His only complaint was the towbar had to be cut and modified for his load leveling hitch to fit. It was touching the spare tyre. (No Room)

My big complaint was when fitting his dual battery system for his fridge there was NO room under the bonnet. I had to design a system that had to be mounted under the vehicle in a special cradle using a maintenance free BMW battery.

Will send photos to those that are interested.

I test drove a diesel and found it had a constant drumming like a rear window was open. Gutless below 2000 rpm. Tried it on a slight incline with a left hand turn in it and unless it was spinning over 2000 rpm it nearly died. A 1800mm person could easily sleep in the back. Lots of room. Good price but we elected to buy a 2 yr old turbo Cruiser instead for less money. I am amazed the Cruiser averages 10.5 lt per 100 which I think is on par with the Pathy.
