Has anyone has problems with their 3l Jackaroo Turbo Diesel (2002) blowing white smoke and losing power? It mainly happens on start-up.....mostly when the engine is cold and the power loss can be when the engine is hot or cold!

My freaking dealer (Holden authorised) keeps telling me there is nothing wrong and I'm about too go nuts - help would be appreciated.

Thanks - S

PS: Oil and glow plugs have been changed to spec and an independant dealer thinks it could be the injectors!

Coolant being burnt? otherwise it is probably unburnt diesel, possibly due to faulty injectoror if only on startup may be a dead glowplug.
I'd be checking all intake plumbing for air leaks, turbo and intercooler (if fitted) hoses for leaks etc.
also test the glowplugs (they go o/c when blown)
Not really familiar with Jackaroo diesels so cannot offer more specific advice.

White smoke is unburnt fuel, low compression maybe! get the compression checked.
Also i the correct oil is very critical with the hydraulic lifters in these motors.

I would suggest that the turbo is in the last stages of life and could probably do with a rebuild.

I'll second that... Had 2 turbo's go on Cats. Tell tale white smoke and power loss both times. I'd get someone independant to check out the turbo and go back to GM with that.

S,

try here: http://forum.australia4wd.com/

Could be any number fo problems, but, the Jackaroo 4JX engine does have a track record of injector problems too which could be the case in your Jack.

Regards

Graham

PS - Holden service centre personnel wouldn't know a Jackaroo diesel if they were standing in beside it! I should know - I had that very experience!

Have you been through water lately? A friend of a friend of mine put his cruiser into deep water hole and hydoliced the the motor and itblow white smoke all the way back to the workshop. May be water in the tank.

If white smoke occurs on cold start and disappears as it warms, it usually indicates low compression, as it is unburnt diesel. As temperature increases the burn efficiency increases and the white disappears. Sticking piston rings and also cylinder glaze can also cause this. If it does a lot of idling, light duty cycles, short run times or runs cooler than it should, it is a candidate for glaze

If it persists for longer than the warm up stage, other causes are more likely. Faulty injector could be a problem. Injector timing will cause white smoke that persists.

There may be other cuases too, but these ones are more common, for my experience.

After a little performance like that I'd not buy "IT" - what ever"IT" is - from you.

Someone who is prepared to harangue and abuse potential customers is not likely to provide any respect after the sale either.

It makes you wonder why the owners of the Forum put up with the consistant garbage that comes out of this BILL S mouth, it's obvious that if he is a advertiser he can get away with it, to the detriment of other users. Let's see a bit of responsibility from the Forum Administrator & get rid of this freak before he turns people off the Forum. Surely his advertising dollars can be recinded as a Xmas present to the constructive people who appreciate this Forum.

Hi Troubled Jack . one thing that comes to mind is the injector seal recall . Has yours been done? The failure of the O ring seperating the fuel and oil (in the head) can cause oily fuel particularly on start up and lots of smoke , does the smoke smell oily or like diesel? The other telltale sign is rising oil level in the sump as when running the fuel rail is under pressure and can leak diesel past the O ring into the sump .

Good luck Dave L.
