The highway was cut yesterday North Of
Norseman as a fire that has been burning for 3 weeks intensafied with the recent hot weather and crossed the highway on a 5km front. So far it has only burned 8000ha but with unfavourable conditions forcast it is expected to really grow as fires in this area can burn for months.
Member Johon (vic) was able to skirt the fire to the west by taking the
Norseman lake Johnston Road and then the Victoria rocks road through to
Coolgardie.
Spent a pleasnt time putting a name to a face with him and his son over a Barbie last night and took him for a Tour of town this morning - Couldnt drag him away from langtrees though!!

I've been keeping in touch with
John using the bcon system, www.bcon.com.au
he sends regular position reports and short messages via
HF radio and I pick them up on the web. I think it's still in the testing stages but it appears to be working very
well.

He was telling me all about it and it opened my eyes As I thought HF was on the way out but obviosly not. I just tried cell calling him (I know this is frowned on a bit with unneccasary cell calls on vks) but i am still testing mySetup He has made 2 successful calls to me (one was very close) but i cant reach him. i know my call works as i have used it but only in a testing very close situation. So I might see if
Perth can sell call me this evening (depending on conditions - they seem to be really variable ATM) Hopefully they will as Skeds seem to be very quite ATM

That Bcon stuff is terrific for others to monitor where you are and to send short messages from your desktop. I would sure like it for my next remote trip if only for the missus to know where me and the little bloke are at any given time. Sounds like
John is having a ball and his little bloke is operating the equipment with skill.....all good stuff!!

Hi Leigh
The
young bloke said "I'm no little bloke"
I guess he's not at 15 years old and 6 ft 4" tall. LOL.
Cheers

Dave my son was in Kal for a week doing a shutdown. Back to the big smoke today. I suspect that he'd of been too tired to notice a fire. He did tell me of the gold dust inside the hoppers I think. He was quite excited until they explained that most of it was fools gold.

Hi Guys
The Girls flew
home today Tuesday 10th Jan.
I am leaving
Perth Tomorrow 11th Jan heading South then East via Cape Arid etc.
Home around the 23rd ish???
So keep trying the HF and keep sending those Bcon messages.
Davoe thanks for a great time in Kal, I heard you on the
Perth Sched the last few nights you where at Poison Beach, tried to Selcall you with no response after the sched had finished.
I normally call into the
Perth Sched on either channel 2 or 1 after the switch so try after the sched has finished on Channel 1 (5 Megs), Seems to be better reception around the SW on channel 1.
Cheers All
P.S. We are having a ball, weather if brilliant.
