mary, mine was an Omni brand 7" screen and cost $330 from Wow Sound (formerly Brisbane Carsound). The salesman told me it had its own antennae and could not be plugged into a regular antennae, well he was a dill and you get a separate connector to plug into a regular antennae.

I reckon portable DVD players with TV tuners will flood the market after christmas and will come down in price so maybe wait a couple months.

Voxson make one as well but I couldn't find one for sale anywhere.

The Omni did exceed my expectations, only drawback is the mono sound. U even get a remote with it and a games console and it has a USB port, multimedia card port, a detachable (therefore replaceable) battery, 12v connector and 240v connector, and other stuff ...

No i don't work for Omni.

Sounds good - what's the USB port intended to connect to?

Hey joc

USB port is for portable storage devices. Eg you can get those half pen sized things from every electronics computer store to store files, why would you use it on one of these - not quite sure to be honest. Photos, animation pieces, maybe short films, not sure, but its there.

Fair enuf! Be interested to know what the performance of the receiver is like; ie, do you have be located right under the transmitting tower to get a picture, or will it perform a la domestic tv receivers

It's an Omni DV-9781T

Reception - Joc, haven't tried it out enough. I get great reception from my house and from inside the kitchen without direct eyesight to the transmission towers it works cr#p off the antaennae that came with it but perfect reception off the ($20) rabbit ears - you get a little plug with an input into the unit at one end and the other end is the female end for the external antennae.

Reception with rabbit ears got the same result as my 10yr old 34cm tele in the kitchen.

The office reception is great but probably cause i am 15floors up and can see each station tower.

If I were you guys I'd wait until the 10" screens with TV reception come down the this price, shouldn't be long.

And the holes at the back are as follows (don't have the book here so don't ask me what)

Video in/out
S-Video Y/C
Antennae hold (Y shaped symbol but not quite)
USB
Audio in
Audio out
Games plug.

Yeh, considering the low cost of non-TV-receiver portable dvds, and the true cost of the extra electronics in the receiver (not much), we should see costs plummet before long.
Also, agreed, 10" would be nice. And stereo...

I just bought the Omni with the TV tuner, best thing since whatever other gadget i bought. I can sit at work now and watch the sports roundup at 4pm, or take DVD's away when i go away or watch telly if I need (want) to.

I got just plain rabbit ears for mine, works well 15 stories up.

I'm in the market too, was going to wait till after chrissy and see if the prices drop.
Really need a fridge first. got one of those thermal types but not the best.
Want a compressor variety first - then the TV/DVD.

I bought 2 on ebay from HongKong for about $250 each 8.5" screens, games, TV radio and plays anything. They took 3 days to get here. They are wrapped up under the XMAS tree at the moment. They have their own antenna but I don't expect that to work unless I'm really close to the source so I'm looking at connecting to a external antenna too.

cheers
Rob
