Some already know, but last Monday we picked up our new Jayco Eagle Outback.
Alright, I'm getting a bit soft. After some comfort and something that is easier to set up. A couch, a table and chairs, a proper stove and sink, struth, even a wardrobe. Now I could blame this newfound need for comfort on Jenny, but one of my "friends" would put me in the frame in no time flat, so I'm coming clean.
We whipped down to Inverloch Sat and Sun nights and as seems to be the way whenever we get away, it was wet and miserable. Oh the joy of the new camper, it's so bloody civilised. I even got a wind out awning fitted so that I don't have to bother with poles and ropes.
I've also added a few other luxuries to the kit such as a Coleman Hot Water Service and one of those spring up shower tents to make things easier.
The original camper did 50 nights away in a year, this one will easily break that record.

I can see you're really worried about the girl's blouse thing - sure you are :)))
If you can do what you enjoy in comfort, why not. Don't get any extra brownie points for roughing it.

gotta love that extra comfort level in a jayco tho.
the only thing i can say about them is, keep a eye on the shockie mounts. dont know about your model, but some of the earlier ones tend to bend a bit. simple fix with a stronger piece of angle.

Jim, i've just got a new outback as
well, the smaller finch. Get underneath and
check out a few things.
The wiring coming from the car thru the drawbar is not properly protected from rubbing against the chassis (near the wheel).
The water hose for the
water tank is not suitably protected. Large stones or sticks flicked up by the wheels of the car WILL rip it clean out (trust me it happened on my last Jayco). Same with the tap on the gas pipe at the rear. A small tin sheld is all that's needed.
After driving in wet weather, remove the lenses from the tail lights and let them dry out.
Jim, enjoy. We have been using Jayco for a few years, and although a few little things slip through, they are generally tops. Others will denegrate them, but most of us Jayco owners do not want to go up to northern Queensland or go for the really rugged stuff, so a little comfort is
well worth it.

Those water hoses ceratinly are vulnerable. What is best to protect them?

Jim, this is what I plan on doing.
Firstly cover all wiring and hoses with convaluted tubing. (don't forget about the small bit of wiring underneath at the rear)
Rivet a sheet of galv to the chassis rail to cover that small section of floor (kinda like a false floor).
I can't wait to get out there on the road (and off) with ours in late January. We're off to Fitzgerald River NP (near
Bremer Bay) for a week.

I don't know what's wrong with me as I'm finding as I get older I get tougher. I've been through a caravan and then a camper, both brand new with all the goodies. Got sick of them both and went back to roughing it with a tent and minimal equipment. I find it much simplier and less worries about expensive equipment. Having had my children very late in life maybe I do things backwards.....I gotta be tough to keep up with them :) Anyway Jimbo I hope the camper gives you many enjoyable and memorable trips with your EO friends....merry christmas
