Red book often doesnt take many things into account.

If their saying a smick bj42, with not much on the clock, is worth max $5000 their kidding. Crap bj42's are starting at around $4000. Red book is only good for cars less than 10 years old.

Hi there bj42, be careful it's not an import, heaps of imports around, klms are generally not what the vehicle's done most of the time more, has possjbly spent alot of time on salt covered roads, I spent months looking for one of these things are virtually impossible to get hold of unless they have been mistreated big time or there imports which even though identicle to the ones that were imported and sold here when I tried to even get a quote prior to purchasing one they dont even want to no you and that was some of the insurance companys that only do off road vehicles and the ones that would insure would do market value only, which means it could be 10k one day 5k the next. Dends on where you live but I personally wouldn't but one with out air, chances are you wont even get an aftermarket kit for it now either, and when/if you go to sell it majority of people wont want it either. I found that out myself try selling a vitara with out air couldn't sell it even at a fair price, went to a wrecking yard pulled one out payed $500 put it in added another1k to the price and sold it straight away. Just my experiance any way. If you really like it get the chassis number and go to your toyota dealership and they will be able to tell you whether it's an import or not, then if it is ask them for availability for parts, price seems ok I was looking at some 86 models and they were asking 10k but that was turbo diesel an 4 speed auto, changed my mind after looking for so long and bought the hilux d/cab 2.8 diesel. No where near as much get up n go as the bj but has seved me well. Good luck Regards Vitara
