I read about this a few months back but cannot find the thread - apologies.

I am interested in putting the new 80l Engel Fridge/Freezer in the back of our 04 GU.

I read that you cannot open the lid properly because it is too big. Not sure of circumstances etc (ie whether it was sitting on floor, shelving, with or without slide or other).

If on a slide, does whole fridge slide outside rear (or is there still a bit under the roof of the car?

Any feedback or experiences woudl be gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Alan

as the slide can not slide the full length of the frame (if it did, it would come out and that aint any good) i would bet there would still be some under the roof?
i know with mine (a home made fridge) with slide on floor (100 series) the lid will still open. from what i can recall i reckon it wouldnt if i had draws in as well.
The engel 80 litre would be slightly bigger in physical size than mine

Not necessarily true Nudie.
The slide I have my 40 litre mounted on comes out far enough so the back of the fridge is further out than the front of the fridge normally sits at.....In other words, say the slide is 30" long, it actually travels a distance of, say, 34". (these measurements are only for demonstration purposes, so don't quote me).

Have an 80lt Waeco on Outback drawer system with fridge slide in 80 series ,, fully extended slide lets fridge lid open to 65/70deg instead of full 90deg ,is still plenty of room to see/acess.

Alan

I have a 60lt Engel in the back of my GU. As the 80 lt is the same footprint but deeper i would say that yes you would not be able to open it inside the vehicle. I have Blackwidow slide that when fully extended the fride is outside the car and allows for the lid to open fully. You may want to check weights and capacity as the 80lt will be heavier and hold more beer.

I just realised i think there is a problem with the 60 lt in that whenit is fully extended and you open the lid the curvature of the door window stops the lidd from fully openning. It may be slightly as the lid wont stay opne by it self. With the 80 lt it may be worse.
