As I posted about a week ago at 211000 km found metal in the engine filter
Solved the problem today - traded it in on a cruiser
Feels pretty good to! merry xmas all

Where did nissan get it so wrong with that particular motor.? landy man myself we have our share of probs, but motor wise there been pretty good over the years. I like nissan as well and next vechicle might be one, but it makes you nervous when you continually hear about these motor dramas.

it seems to be the motor in the series 2 models up to 2000 or 2001, the series 3 ones seem to have sorted them selves out

There are no issues with the 4.2, so go with that. Old, slow but bulletproof.

As Trucky said go the 4.2 if you do go Nissan but just don't expect to tow too much with it.

Where they got it so wrong is that I've been told the ZD30 is a Renault motor

I really think that the computer technology was the main problem,faulty or dirty sensors sending wrong signals creating over boost problems etc
Mine was an early model maybe it was run with the lower oil level before Ibought it who knows?
Hope this cruiser (NA diesel manual GXL 2002 mod) is as good as the equivilent 60series I had (89 mod 405000ks when Isold it ) and Istill se it running around Port Stephens

ZD30 is a Nissan engine also supplied to Renault. Engine Management issues most likely cause of failures IMHO as dieselup says. Nissan cash strapped at time of development, maybe too many shortcuts with testing?
