we have a 98 gq patrol, fitted with an aftermarket denco turbo. the GQ has a "primary air filter" behind the pasenger side headlight, then the pipework goes up to the top of the engine to the next airfilter! the guy we bought it off says that the primary air filter is omitted when the turbo is fitted. we have just fitted a
snorkel (thanks Ads) and are wondering if we should replace this "omitted" filter? the filter box is still there!
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks guys!

I was told when I had and aftermarket turbo fitted to use ONLY paper air filters, NOT foam filters of any brand. I would
check with the supplier of the turbo regarding the primary filter refitment or not.

The one behind the headlight is a PREcleaner not Primary...
The one on top of engine is the main filter. Havent had my precleaner in 3 years also running denco...
The car gets much better air without it since the hose out of the precleaner is 1/2 the size of the hose
as you can see in this image - that flat piece of pipe at the bottom is the inlet from precleaner to the hose to the airbox.

PS. Dont bother with the foam filters, they arent as good with the turbo system, I have tried it, went back to paper OEM Nissan filters.
YMMV

The bit that clamps to the inner guard I had AWILL4x4 make up for me. Hes a nice chap.. ;) You need to have this bit made up
diameter is NFI. but if you look at the first photo, its about the same size as the original piece of plastic which I had cut, and then slid this piece of hose over it. plenty of silastic on each end :)
