Power loss on bigger tyre size LC100?

Looking at putting 285/75 BFGs on my LC100. Is there much of a power loss from standard? How does it effect fuel economy? Much?

I rekon 10% loss in "get going power", a bit harder to climb rocks on inclines of 35degrees or more......
Fuel economy is 12.5litres per hundred... It used to be 11.5....
I know i dont have a "breadbox" or as more commonly known,,, a 100 series,, but it will effect you in a similar fashion..

low range 1st is also a litte faster and you may actually be able to stall it on a climb. The accelleration sucks until you hit about 2200rpm in petrols.
Keep in mind- your fuel consumption goes up, but so does the distance traveled that the odometer doesnt count because your speedo is out with a larger tyre diameter.

With Inichip it will feel like without Unichip with bigger tyres...

Hi Viz,
Have had 285/75/16 BFG Muddies on my 100 series V8 Auto for about four thousand ks now.
Speedo out by 6 and a bit percent (GPS Vs Speedo)
Power down a little with auto (5 speed) wanting to kick back sooner.
Revs at 100k/p/h dropped to about 1900.
Mileage dropped a small fraction but no figures at this stage.
Off road I have no problems in off idle climbing up steep inclines.

On the change of power, everyone has a different opinion on what 'great' or 'minor' loss of power is.
See if you have a mate with that size tires and throw them on, go for a drive.

Going from 265/70 R16 to 285/75 R16 on my 3.0L Patrol, acceleration suffered a bit, although I do like the extra ground clearance. Fuel consumption is up slightly, but don't forget when calculating fuel consumption that the bigger tyres do throw your odometer out slightly. Might want to
check on the legalities in your state though. I got
mine put on in WA and then after moving to SA found that they are illegal in this state, but am hoping I can wear them out before going back to the 265/70 R16 before replacing them, particularly at the price of tyres today.

Hi Viz, I had some BFG AT 285's fitted to my LC100 about a month ago and couldn't be happier. Also put in a K&N air filter at the same time to offset the loss in power - works a treat! I would recommend it. Haven't noticed any change in fuel consumption yet - too early, hopefully will go down slightly (currently on about 21L/100km).

Dekard, Had a 80srs petrol tested at NSW RTA last Thursday, showed it running at 21.4 ltrs per 100l;ms,fitted a product advertised on this
forum and first run after fitting milage moved to 19.1ltrs per 100 instantly. Now tell me that that is not saving money ?????????Merry christmas if you have it fitted sad if you havenot and expensive.
