Mate from my football team came over last night in his Dad's pajero, packed to the hilt. He's going to Moreton for 5 days with 7 friends (me goin to visit rellies so couldn't go).

The wagon is impressively set up with home made drawer system, older 60L engel on slide with barrier around it to keep off the luggage, dual battery system.

What is't he taking to Moreton -

"You got a tyre gauge Marek?"

Ans: "Nope.

"You got an air compressor?"

Ans: "Uhm, not sure."

"Do you know how the dual battery system works or the capacity of the second battery ?"

Ans: "Uhm, he tried to tell me but it didn't make any sense".

"Do you know how much current the fridge _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx ?"

Ans: "What's current dude, does it have good breaks ?" (he chuckles)

"You got a snatch strap ?"

Ans: "Nope, but the other vehicle is a large kick arse 4WD and we should be right".

"What do you mean alright? is it going to ram you out of a bog ?"

Ans: "We'll work something out"

"What sort of 4WD is it ?"

Ans: "Uhm, a Honda CRV"

"You're f#####g mad."

Oh, and what was he doing at my place at 9pm before leaving the next morning - borrowing my triple gas burner so he can cook for the team. But he only rang me that evening and do you think my gas bottle is full - dead empty, I use butane and dual fuel stoves these days. But he took it anyhow "Maybe i can get a refill on the island" he said.

He is 30yrs old. He said when he was leaving his dad's house his dad looked glum, but he thought it was because he wanted to come. But i reckon we think it's because he's going to screw up his dad's favourite toys.

Sounds like he'll learn a few things while he's away.
I just hope the Paj doesn't end up as an artificial reef.

Spare a thought for his dad (being one myself) he should have asked me how to deal with this issue. My boys get the same consistant answer "NO" - now what was the question? Never had these worries.

Kind regards

Good position I reckon, work with someone who is totally the opposite. Lets his boys take his 80 series Cruiser up to Fraser and DI when they like and he always has to spend money on his truck or worse it's off the road when he wants to use it.

Kind regards

I know someone who was early 30s and borrowed his Dad's 4wd to go to Double Island Point twice. First time he tore the bumper off on a washout and the 2nd time he rolled it!!! Not doing anything stupid just inexperienced.

I wouldn't lend my 4wd to anyone to go 4wding without relevant experience. Even then I probably wouldn't.

I'm with you on that one.

I have a hard enough time letting my wife drive my pride and joy, let alone anyone else.

The first time I let my son have our troopy he took his new lady friend for a picnic to a popular off road destination in the bush up Jarrahdale way.

By 8pm they hadn't returned so grabbed the other truck and went off in search of him knowing roughly his destination etc.

Found him later that evening with troopy stuck sideways across a track on a hill side which was blocked by a tree. Once I locked the hubs in, out he came though he did have the sense to attach the winch cable to a tree in case the thing tried to slip down the hill.

He wasn't too phased tho because when I first found them and lit the troopy up with the spotlights, there was a flurry of bare bums and other bits as it seemed they had found something to do to while away their time.

Oh to be young!!!

Obviously reducing the weight in the troopy to avoid too much tension on the winch cable LOL

Too true

Like my son above, he is now a total convert owning a 100 series turbo with all the fruit and dad is still driving the 75 plodder bringing up the rear.

They have to start somewhere and i would probably prefer they did it under our guidance than some other jock.
