coil or leaf suspension

I'm thinking of getting myself a second 4wd, spending some money on it and possibly making it into a competition capable 4wd. The biggest question I have at the moment is what type of suspension I should have on the vehicle, coil or leaf. I currently drive a 2.8D hilux and have found no problems with the leaf suspension, although I am only running 32 inch Simex when I go bush. I would be planning on at least 33 inch but hopefully 35 inch on a new truck. Any suggestions?

CCCCCOOOOOOOIIIIIILLLLLLSSSSSS!
:-)

Easier and cheaper to modify, easier to work on IMHO.

But if you're after a cheap 4by, you might have to settle for leafs anyway... Although an older GQ with coils would probally be the way to go if you want something cost effective and easy to modify the crap out of.

If you want an unbiased answer on this one check with your dentist.

He will approach the issue from a different perspective but will recommend the coils.

If you want to form your own opinion take a leaf sprung unit for a run along a corugated track then do the same track in a coil sprung bus.

coils.

Theres nothing like a smooth ride.
You cant just go do a springover to get a cheap lift on coils, but I reckon coils articulate easier and your dollar will go further.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards probably getting a GQ with coils and now I'm pretty certain that's what it'll be. Cheers

My GQ has a modest 2" lift for touring but it can still do some pretty amazing things once the little stick is engaged. A lot more capable than leaf sprung fourbies in my 4wd club. Thers's a reason why 85% of comp vehicles are GQ's.

Land Rover Defender? Will out-perform any STANDARD Jap 4WD - WITHOUT needing suspension modifications, lifts, etc....
