78 series Troopy... anybody know of a common problem here... 3 doors to choose from.

The Door light won't go off... noticed it was on over the weekend, and it's stayed that way. I've tried some WD in there, to no avail. Prob a faulty switch I guess.

Cheers

Courtesy light circuits are usually live with the door switch completing the circuit to earth. The switches are usually very simple but may be faulty. Another possibility is a short in the wiring, which will close the circuit regardless of the switch being open. Try disconnecting the switches. If the light stays on then you have a short via a chaffed wire or something similar.

I had this problem in my Patrol...it ended up beeing the rear door switch. There is a runner covering that got a crack in, tapped it up with some duck tape and it's as good as new...for the moment anyway

I have another option for you.

Has someone manually operated the light via the slide or toggle switch and left it on? Most interior lights have 3 positions. Off, On & "door switch mode".

If the switch has been moved to ON, then it bypasses the door switch and will remain on until switched to one of the other modes.

OK, I have played around with it... it's the passenger door. I fiddled with it, and now it's off permanently. This is better than on permanently... as it affected the alarm etc. Still not ideal... is it isn't a cause for concern ... i.e fire hazard?

Worried about fire ?? Pull the fuse old mate. Won't matter if it's "off permanently ".

Wheelie,

We've got a couple of 79 series utes here, and have had that problem in both. Turns out the interior light and/or switch is buggered.

Replaced both of them, and the light on dash goes out.

Hooroo...

I had this problem on my 45- I thought it was a dodgy switch but it worked fine when operated by finger but not with the door.
Turns out the door latch was too far out. I loosened off the latch screws, moved it in closer to the car and tightened up the screws again. Door shuts and seals tighter, light switch works perfectly.

We had a dodgy switch on the back door of the Patrol. For a while it would be OK, then come on after going over a bump. My husband tried putting a sticky backed felt dot on it to depress it further, which only helped for a while. My idea was to put the black dot over the light on the dashboard. Replaced the switch in the end, and all was well. When he left this afternoon i saw him stop, get out and slam the back doors - maybe he just hadn't shut them properly, or maybe time to replace the one in the other door?
