Hi all,

I was so proud when I got shown a copy of Jan 2006 4x4 Australia today I could have just ..... dunno. But I was pretty chuffed.

Page 66
Number 10 in the "Top 10 Products for 2005"

The Tilting Fridge Slide.

My pics not theirs:

Now Candy Canvas aren't the original designer (I published the plans last year and to date I beleive I was the first to do it. No one has ever said they saw it anywhere before mine.) but someone was bound to take my idea and run with it. Many on the forums here and others elsewhere suggested I patent it, and I always said it was an idea free to a good home for the good of husbands with short wives everywhere. (And so the same husbands who may also be vertically challenged could also get themselves a beer!)

Anyway, I've spoken to Phil at Candy Canvas and he seems like a nice bloke. He thought it was a good idea too, and his wife loved it which meant it must have been a good idea.

I know the few of you who made them off my drawings thought that it was a good idea cos you emailed me and told me!

If the one of you who made one and showed Phil in Sydney could let me know who you are I'd like to pat you on the back also as you had a part in my idea becoming widely available to those who can't weld.

I'm not affiliated in any way with Phil or Candy Canvas. I just want to plug my idea. Google Candy Canvas and you will find him. Get in quick he's only getting a limited production run done to see how it goes. The price is wrong in the article too - they quoted it with the slide. He does them for $140 without the slide too.

If you want the plans and have some time and steel spare you can get them at my web site. Link in signature below.

Dave

PS Hope the pics and links work. Trying out David's new code.

Dave,

I'm sure everyone who looked at your contraption thought it was a bloody good idea. I've spoken to several people about it, as I'm sure many others have, but definitely no one from Candy Canvas.

Well done

I've made one small improvement since.

If you divide the fridge in two across the middle of the basket by cable tying in a cake cooling rack that is the right width (they do exist - I pinched Lynne's and it was perfect fit.) you can stop the contents sliding about when the fridge tilts.

A mate of mine does this pre my innovation.

On our last trip I stacked all the cryovac'd meat on the high side of the divider (hardest to reach but least accessed contents) and all the drinks and other essentials on the low side. The little basket could sit either side as required.

It worked really well.

I'll take some pics and post them to illustrate if people want me to.

From someone who has used your idea well done mate, it is a bloody ripper. I look forward to seeing the mag. Kir is still so cuffed she can reach in the fridge with out a step ladder.

Dave,

You should have patented the design Mate.

Now someone else with the capital will move in and "steal" your invention.

It'd be hard to patent I reckon. Too easy to modify it and do something different to achieve the same effect.

From what I've heard and I haven't looked into it, to protect a product well using patents is very expensive, and then after you patent it someone can still pinch your idea if you don't have the money to go to court and defend it.

With that in mind I'd rather the idea was out there and people had the chance to buy it and use it, if they can't make it them selves.

It'll be an accomplisment and validation of my ingenuity enough to see them on sale somewhere or in the back of someone elses rig.

Now where'd I put the plans for the sliding swivel boat seats.....

Yep great design Dave. Although I didn't make the tilting fridge slide, I did make a set of roller drawers for the 'Lux based on your plans.

David (exploreoz) any chance you can create a separate area for these ideas. Heaps have been posted, but there is no ready reference. To do a search, you have to know what you are looking for and what the poster has called it. No way to just go fishing for ideas.

I've made my own roof console for radio, map lights and storage and roll out awning. Others have made some great stuff which can be adapted for many uses.

Up to you whether people could post plans and instructions direct or if you want to vet them first.

Worth a thought anyway. There is a great source of knowledge and ingenuity on this forum and most of us are happy to share the ideas.

Great idea, but too late for me. I just butchered my drawers (there's a line there isn't there) and stuck one on top of the other with the fridge on a roller down where the other drawer was. Works for me, and there are heaps of suppliers of drawers now that offer drawers on top of each other and the fridge slide at floor height. Definatly cheaper to do it this way! Well done.
