We are hoping to do the Gunbarrel from East to West in July and as part of the trip, do the abandoned section from
Warburton to Jackie Jackie
Junction.
We are travelling single vehicle (2005 Nissan ST Diesel) and therefore, cannot get a permit to travel on the abandoned section because you must have a min of 2 vehicles and a max of 5.
Is there anyone travelling E to W on that section around about 8 July who we could team up with for the day or so that it takes?
I contacted Ngaanytjarra Council to see if I could leave my details so that they could pass them onto anyone who applied for a permit at that time but that was a "no go".
Cheers

They are mainly concerned about your safety. Have you phoned them and explained that you are experienced solo travellers carrying more safety and retreival gear (including radio) than the average tag a long ?
Just a thought. Often a direct polite and respectful approach will work wonders.

Just did that section a week ago. Not only did we have to get permits, but we also had to have a liaison come along with us.
The abandoned section is okay, some rough spots, but still drive-able.
You may need to post this request on all of the 4 x 4 forums, as
well as trying to see if you could legally tag along with a prescribed tour through this section, at the very least. We had 7 vehicles in our convoy.
Best of luck....
