Is the TD42 which are in GQ's (especially a 96 model) much different internally than a TD42 in a GU which is turboed????
Compression ratio?. Pistons?. Rings?. Head?.

I have my vehicle booked in for a fitment of a Mitsubishi Turbo next Monday and was after feedback... good or bad... Both apreciated...

$4000 quoted including a valve clearance check and adjustment with a dyno before and after...

G'day Voxson,
Can't fully answer your question mate, but i do recall having a conversation with a highly respected mechanic in Cooma back in the late 90s. Lawrence Fraser worked for Cooma Diesel in Cooma at that time, then he moved to their Fyshwick outlet and has apparently now moved to Queanbeyan Diesel.

I recall he was telling me, when i owned a 93 model GQ, that i was fortunate to have one of the last ones before Nissan went to lighter pistons, which made them less suitable for turboing. I think he said that Nissan went to the lighter pistons in '95 but can't recall why....could have been something to do with less reciprocating mass = better power output or less pollution or similar. He said they could still be turbo'd, but might need a bit of work done on the top end.

Hope this helps.....

I have a 94 GQ and have been told that Nissan lightened the pistons and some other componenets in the 2nd half of 95. The owners manual I have has a supplement for GQs built after August 95 which would support this.

Cheers

88-97 TD42 compression ratio 22.7 to 1.
97-02 TD42 compression ratio 22.7 to 1
88-97 power 85 kw @ 4000
97-02 power 91 kw @ 4000
01-03 TD42T compression ratio 22.7 to 1
01-03 power 114 kw @ 4600
Hope this helps
