I forgot to add this too,
Everyone's heard of the Grand Canyon, but how many people have heard about Capertee Valley, the world's second largest enclosed valley? Spanning up to 50 kilometres in some parts, Capertee Valley is one of Australia's true secrets, and it's less than three hours' drive from Sydney.

Getabout Four Wheel Drive Adventures provide a great way to appreciate the valley's amazing landscape. During a two day Capertee Caper tour you'll see areas of the region that are virtually undiscovered and unexplored - and you'll be doing it with the safety and comfort of professional guides who are passionate about the area and know a lot about the region's history.

One of the highlights of the tour is a visit to the pagodas. The clumps of rocks are formed by layer after layer of sandstone, ironstone and more sandstone sandwiched together over 250 million years. Dozens of formations crowd the escarpment, making these natural rocks appear like an ancient city.

From ancient rock formations to ghost towns, this tour is like stepping into an Indiana Jones movie. After traversing fern-gullied creeks and climbing into sunken canyons, you'll visit the ruins of an old mining village. In its heyday in the 1880s more than 3000 people lived here, and some of the original coal miners' huts can still be seen.

Baz, hope this helps.

Thanks Baz

Had already sussed them out but not looking for a tag-a-long....much like my sex mate...I NEVER pay for it... :-) ....looking more at what other non commercial ppl have done.

Have been there before, last year, but want to find tracks/ spots/ camp sites etc that I havent already experienced.

Re the reference to Grand Canyon...of the 19,999,999 people in Oz (joke guys...dont e-mail about how impossible it would be for me to actually do this :-)) that I have mentioned that to not one knew about it....and yet this little Kiwi did....I guess its a case of 'the grass is always greener on the other side"

Hey Kiwi,

I am not sure if you are saying that you have been through Capertree or not but if you have why not drop in to the Turon river trails from the Capertree side. Plenty of step and deep down there to chosse from. You can also do a trek from the top of Newnes through to Capertree which takes you past the lookout for Capertree Valley if you haven't done this trek already. Great views along the escarpment to begin with and a variety of tracks from rock base to mud.

Regards,

Stuart

Hey Kiwi,

Just to follow up places like:

Sunny Corner State Forest
Dark Corner
Turon State Forest
Ben Bullen Forest

Are all places which have tracks and places to visit and are all accessible from Capertree.

Regards,

Stuart

Camp at Newenes and look for the track up through the Garden Of Stones NP. I think there is also a track back towards Lithgow that starts as "Blackfellos Hand".
The camping at Newnes is excellent

Hey T, so what areas have you been to, so we know which ones to NOT tell you about? :)

BTW, a bunch of PCoA folk will be up that way on the weekend. Might see you around.
