Russ,

We use Shell "Diff Oil" for a '97 80 series, in both front and rear. Also use the same in 2 79 series work utes and a 100 series dual cab, in rear diffs, and Shell Spirax 85W/140 in front.

Never had a problem that I could relate to the oil. Just the occasional tojo diff "hissy fit". Good to change the oils regularly, every 40K or less.

Hooroo...
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Gday Russ
You will find your gearbox will become hard to shift...all cruiser boxes hate 90 grade especially in the cold climates...best oil for it is Castrol vmx-m 75-90, transfer and front diff, any 90 grade ep oil, rear ls90. There is no problem running ls90 in the front either, just more expense.
When you put ARB lockers in a diff, LS90 is recommended to assist the orings wear. For those who dont know, ls90 has friction modifiers added to the oil, which will interfere with synchros etc.

Hi
I have looked after a fleet of Landcruiser for over 4 years now and to keep things simple I use Shell limited slip diff oil we run it in the front diff with no problems at all product number (P12552 1395240) It is for cars with or without LSD and if your gear box is a little tight in the colder mornings 75/90 gear oil in gear box and transfer case change oils every 40000kms and check the oils after water crossings for contamination

Theres no problem with putting LS90 into the front diff - most workshops do this for simplicity.
