G'day.

A regular contributer to the forum, Bob Y from Qld, has been quiet for a short while.

In case anyone has been wondering what he’s up to, his family has given me permission to post an update on what's been happening.

The following is from his family yesterday, Sunday:

We have decided, on behalf of Dad (Bob to most of you), that it’s time to update his extended family & friends on what he’s been going through these last few weeks.

Dad underwent a liver resection in Townsville on 25th November (this entailed 70% of his liver being removed, along with the gall bladder & bile duct being recreated & connected to the bowel).

The surgery went as hoped, and Dad was discharged a week later (staying in Townsville).

Unfortunately, he returned to hospital a week after his discharge as the bile duct had not healed as hoped & bile was leaking into his body. This in turn became infected & turned to sepsis.

His surgeon operated again on 11th December to clean the infection out & insert more drains. As you can imagine, the recovery from sepsis is a slow recovery, whilst we wait for the bile duct to heal.

Each day is a new day, and we are, along with the doctors & nurses, taking each day at a time.

Dad isn’t able to take phone calls or respond to messages at the moment, so please hold contact for now. Feel free to comment here and we can pass well wishes onto him when we can ??
Linda, Kate, Cassie & Temira

If anyone wants to send a message to Bob I'll pass it on to his family.

Steve

Whilst I do not recall having any personal contact with Bob, I do remember seeing his name and comments on this forum, and have quite possibly replied to his comments. Please pass on my best wishes to him and the rest of his family. Wishing him a speedy recovery and a good outcome. Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.

Hi David.
I hope you and Kerry are doing well.

Bob will have to use up that strength and energy he has banked over the years.

I know he'll be thinking of the Simpson while he lies in that hospital and that'll help him get out of there.

I hope you have a good Christmas.

Steve

Thanks Steve for bringing the "Bob" situation to me. It sounds quite serious and yes he will need all his energy to get back to his life style.
Thanks also for the opportunity to catch up with you and Narelle, Lot of water under all the bridges. We are still exploring this country of ours in spite of age and ability - in fact probably defying the obvious! Fitting out a campervan at the moment, 4wd probably needs to be retired, tried a caravan now to the campervan. Still in FNQ.
Where are you roughly, what are you doing and how are you!
I will phone Linda in a few days, so let's know if you get more info in the meantime - I don't want to distract her or the family.
All the best Steve and have a good Xmas and a great New Year, David

Hi David.

Linda shared a picture and video yesterday showing Bob up and walking. Slowly and with assistance, but walking.

Narelle and I had been working in Community Stores, mostly in the NT off the Sandover Hwy and a year at Bidyadanga, near Broome.
We stopped doing that full-time July 2023 and did relief at Milikapiti on Tiwi Islands and Atitjere (Harts Range) on the Plenty Hwy.
We bought a place on 1 acre 10 minutes west of South Grafton 12 months ago. Narelle had a heart attack in April just after we returned home from Milikapiti. She's been taking it easy recovering and has started exercising in a gym.

I'm impressed with your longevity. It's good to hear you're getting on with life. It'd be good to catch up with you and Kerry again.

Have a good new year.

Steve.

G'day Steve

Thank you and the Young Family for allowing the ExplorOz community know how Bob is doing, it's not the sort of news you want to hear but it is important to those of us who know Bob on a personal level.

Please let Bob know that Maria and Joe (Fury) are thinking of him and the Young Family right now.

Thanks for the update Steve - what a wonderful thought. Bob has certainly gathered a great number of likeminded friends through the ExplorOz community who would be very shocked by this news but thankful for receiving the update so that they can give their messages of comfort. Life can be very cruel sometimes but we are hopeful he has the strength to pull through this.

Good morning and Merry Christmas to you all.

I have been taking screenshots of each reply and sending them through to Bob's wife, Linda.
Linda is reading them for Bob. I'm sure he appreciates the thoughts from each of you all.

All of the best for Christmas and New Year to you all.

I don't know Bob but you can tell a good bloke by the comments they make on here. By that reckoning, Bob must be a better than good bloke and I sincerely wish him a speedy recovery. Best wishes to the whole family.
