Hi,

Just received my Garmin Glow 2 after warching review and suggestions on ExploreOz youtube vids.

Is it just a matter of adding Bluetooth device to my Samsung A9+ Tab ? Nothing to change in the App?

Do I need to add it to my Samsun S23+ phone as well when in range?

Cheers

Mark.
With your background in IT, you would have far more knowledge of these things than most people on here., I would imagine!
I would have to try and connect devices or maybe even read the instructions.

Why would you try to add a Garmin Glow to devices that already have GPS as standard?

A-GPS and GPS are different.

Using a dedicated GPS unit removes the power drain on your device.

This is what I assume.

A device my have GPS signal In a town or city but once out in the sticks you would have nothing.

Going off the ExploreOz Youtube vid put out by developers.

Hello
A "Samsun S23+ phone" (sic) has "proper" GPS inbuilt - you don't need phone signal/A-GPS. As far as the power drain issue goes - if you add another item to your kit, you now have an extra thing to charge. Would suggest the KISS approach.

Cheers

Quote - "A-GPS and GPS are different."

I thought we had explained things to you in your thread, "Samsung A9+ Wifi 128GB." A-GPS only works in mobile telephone areas. When you get out of mobile telephone range, your navigator drops back to bare basic GPS (or basic GNSS if your navigation receiver is capable of working on the other navigation systems.) You will know when you are out of mobile telephone signal when you first turn your navigation system on and it takes considerable time to lock on as you will have lost the A-GPS system and the receiver drops back to basic operation.

If you go back to that thread, you will see that Tony W told you "You dont need a Glow 2, in fact it may not be as good."

Using Bluetooth will also put a strain on your device.
I have a Samsung Tab A8 and a Samsung A53 5G which I used this year on my travels through western and southern Qld. with no problems.
I also have two different USB GPS devices that I use on my Desktop and Laptop computers for when travelling.
I see no reason why you need an external GPS on any Samsung devices as the specs all appear to be AGPS.

Do you really need a Bluetooth GPS receiver?

My Glow 2 and a couple of older Bluetooth receivers have been hiding in a box somewhere for a few years.

Dare I say it?
The less than $10 Aliexpress USB GPS devices perform better when connected to our Windows based notebooks.

Our Samsung Galaxy A9plus, A9, A7, A7 Lite tablets plus a couple of older Lenovo tablets and all our phones receive GPS signals without any cell service or WiFi involved.

Sitting here in NZ inside our motorhome the A9plus GPS circuitry warm boots in about 3 seconds and reports 43 satellites in view.
A quick measurement indicates a 0.25W (60mA) energy increase with the GPS turned on.
All but insignificant.

Hi,

I think ya may be right...

I may have just wasted quite a few $$ as I am unable to get the Glo 2 to CONNECT to either A9+ or Samsung S23+ I can PAIR the device but Not Connect.. I have updated software on the Glo 2 but made no difference....

I have sent eamils to support but not holding out much hope....

The A9+ I have is Wi-Fi only.

As mentioned in a few posts above the A9 + has multi satellite system capability and does not require a internet connection once you leave a town . Battery drainage is minimum ,possibly less than staying connected to your Glow. Image shows an A9 locked into 46 satellites on Oziexplorer . Only 3 satellites a require to determine a position on earth and a 4th to determine the time .
