Boboyan Rd is being upgraded - to tar. Likely roadworks. Enjoy the scenery if you are not in a hurry. Link here:

Glenn, you did not state whether you are towing a van or not. My experience of the Boboyan Road dates from back when I lived in the ACT. In those days, it was a well maintained gravel road. I used standard cars to traverse it without problems. There were some parts where the width of the road would make towing vans a little interesting, but it is possible if you travel slowly enough to allow oncoming vehicles to see you coming.

Love your phraseology Peter. I consider towing vans to always be err…. "interesting".

Yes - but there is a special interest when towing vans along some of these gravel roads when they get a bit narrow in places. Are you bypassing my special meaning?

Hi Peter,
No, not trying to bypass anything you said. It was a joke mate. But illustrating my view of towing a van anywhere.
Having witnessed some van issues from a safe distance, I determined it was not for me!
And I am sure that there would be some "special interest" in towing on unsealed alpine roads.
I salute those who take it on.

Cheers

I was not aware that the NSW segment of this road was being upgraded. It's only roughly half of the dirt section of the journey in question, and IMHO is the better part. The ACT section through Namadgi National Park is undulating and was fairly rough in spots when we towed a couple of Karavans along it heading south in January. The need to work the transmission in my Prado on these sections made it uncomfortably hot, and if I do it again I will (finally) fit a transmission cooler.

Despite those comments, it's certainly doable if you don't mind dirt roads with a few hills and rough spots. I don't recall any particularly narrow sections that caused me concern, but Karavans are no wider that the tow vehicle.
