Hi Stephen b,

When do you plan to do this trip? Judging by the weather forecast for the next week or so, this area is in for some very interesting weather. It is likely to render the Birdsville Track and the “Darling River Run” impassable.

Certainly this week (Wed onwards) it'll be wet out there on the BVT.

For example

We continually use windy.com as our forward-looking rain indicator. Has rarely been wrong.

2019 (during the drought), NE of Wilcannia, north side.
Fast, smooth, dusty.
Black soil. Do NOT be out here when it rains, even a little bit.
1 minute dash cam clip.

So far, it is the most recent info on the road. And the black soil advise is very relevant.
Do you have something more recent to contribute re the road?
Cheers,
Peter

I've been there quite a few times since 2019 and the majority of the Darling River Run is now gravel and if the road is open then that little bit river clay near Tilpa isn't going to be a problem. Now I haven't been there since earlier this year so I'm not going to waste stephen b time with an outdated road report. I will tell him that most Central Darling roads are currently closed and if he checks Central Darling Shire's facebook page he can keep updated on the road conditions. I will be on the Birdsville track and most probably the Darling in the next few weeks if that is any help to him.

FWIW, the Central Darling Shire road report yesterday had their part of the Darling River run open, but utterly predictably every dirt road in the shire is closed today.
