Hi, We're interested in any feedback on the Travelander Camper Trailers or if there are other options out there that others have experienced. There's not enough room at home to park a camper or small van and a box trailer for general use but something like the Travelander Camper Trailer, with slide on on trailer, could be both. Also the slide on would be small enough to store in the garage with just the trailer parked outside? Any info would be very appreciated. Thanks

A couple of stand outs to me.
Firstly, the Anderson plugs being fully sealed like that makes corrosion repairs impossible and it's something that will need to be done sooner or later.

Second is something that seems most hard floor campers hide well in displays.
There looks like storage everywhere but when it is packed away and all that storage is full of all that canvas and poles etc there will be no room for things like your baby Q, porta potty or your faverite reclining chairs. All things that we take every trip.
Being a slide on you don't even have the Ute to carry stuff in.
May be a little more flexable if trailer mounted but basically just another hard floor.

I have come across a few camper trailer/slide on campers this mob who reside in South Australia on several of my travels, they specialise in "custom builds".Wilmax Fabrications

Hi GG&SC
I would agree with Qldcamper regarding storage.
However I feel that your bigger issue will be the trailer on three counts.
1. This slide on will be height sensitive. It will require a custom made (or modified) trailer so that it will match the ute tray height. It is then probable that the trailer will no longer suit your general duty trailer activities what ever that may be.
2. If you are planning anything more than an occasional weekend away mostly on bitumen road then the typical 'built to a price' dump run trailer offerings will probably not be up to the task.
3. Does the camper rely on the support offered by the flat ute tray or will it be fine supported around the edges only? If not this will mean more trailer modifications or better still, custom build a trailer based on a ute tray mounted at equal height of a ute tray.
All this could end up costly and still offer a compromise in performance. Consider centre of gravity, and the fiddling around to get set up.
Interested to see how it all goes for you.
Wishing you well

We had a Travelander slide on camper back in 2011 on a Patrol ute.

While we loved it for a while the weight was the main drawback. It was bloody heavy at 1t when loaded up. As mentioned previously, storage is light on and finding somewhere to put camp chairs was hard. There are now better suited chairs available. Having it on a trailer may be a better set up.

The best part was the ease of set up and the rear kitchen. It was a very comfortable camper.

We sold it and bought a swag and esky instead as we were young and realized we didn't need anything flash.

There are so many different options out there now. You just need to work out what things you want then look at a few and get what will work for you.

Like you we went from a caravan back to a basic hardfloor campertrailer, didn't need the weight, increased insurance costs, just needed somewhere to sleep off the ground( missus; - me, I enjoy tenting on hard ground). We are in our 60's and enjoy back to basics camping today much more then when we were in the van.
