Mt Magnet to Kalgoorlie.. which way?

Heading down towards SA and plan to head inland from Geraldton. With a few options going south from Mt. Magnet, we thought either through Paynes Find, then down to Hwy 115, then south to hit Hwy 94, then onto Kalgoorlie.

Or... up to Meekatharra, across to Wiluna, then down to Kalgoorlie.

This will be in October. Mainly simple sightseeing and birdwatching. Any reasons to pick one route over the other (we can't see everything!)?

Cheers, Mark.

We prefer the roads less travelled.
A few months ago we drove from Coolgardie north via Davyhurst, Diemals, Youanmi Downs to Mt Magnet.
The roads were spectacularly good (wide, hard and glass smooth) as they are maintained on an almost daily basis by the local mines.
No traffic (I reckon less than 2 other vehicles per day), lots of roadside camping along the way.

All of the above pics were taken on 26/5/24.
Cheers,
Peter

Much prefer that option ourselves, but we are towing a 6m boat this time. Still, if the roads are good... I'll look into it. Cheers.

Geraldton, Mullewa, Mount Magnet, Sandstone, Leinster, turn right and down to Leonora, Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie, Norseman if you want to stay on the tar.

Sounds like the go, cheers. Towing boat so want to stay mainly on tar, but reasonable dirt roads are fine.

Cheers,

Mark
