Hello fellow Adventurers,
We will be coming from
Tibooburra to
Silverton via the
Dingo fence. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how long this will take ? Taking it easy of course.
Also is there a mudmap of the trip?
Lastly, before our trip down the 'Fence' was cancelled due to rain a few years back, there was talk of putting in Signposts. Did this happen ?
Cheers

Two days comfortably and some of it is signposted but it's not that good. There is also several different ways to do it whether its via Waka, Gumvale or
Milparinka.

As for sign post some of it part of Sturt's Steps but that comes out Corona rd not
Silverton and it cuts off the only part of the dog fence you actually drive along

Hi Ivan and thanks for the reply.
Our plan was from
Tibooburra go to
Milparinka, Hawkers
gate then down past
Pineview Station. McDougalls
Well Rd.
Silverton. We only have a day and was under the impression it could be done in a day without too much of a rush. Is this realistic ?

Not sure what condition the roads will be in, last time I checked the road
Milparinka - Hawkers
gate then south along the fence was open to 4WD only with caution. Waka to Yandama still closed I think. May need a couple of days.

Hi Michael,
We did this track back in 2012. Looking at Ivan’s map, we headed in at
Milparinka and
Depot Glen heading all the way to the fence. We followed the station roads all the way to
Silverton. There are a few station gates that need to be negotiated along the road, some were closed and some were open, none were locked. There are a couple of low lying areas and salt lakes that fill with water very close to the road, so depending on how much rain the area has had, the road may not be passable all the way.
The current on line NSW Live Traffic Map shows the road from
Milparinka to the fence is closed, so depending on when you plan to make your trip, it may not be possible. We took 3 days, however we left from
Cameron Corner in the morning, going via
Tibooburra. We arrived at
Silverton mid morning on the third day. Even leaving from
Tibooburra, I think you will struggle to do it in a single day.
Macca.

Thanks for the
feedback. Live Traffic doesn't paint a good picture. We will be there in about 2 weeks and was relying on local information when we get to
Tibooburra then decide. Going through in a day now seems impractical. We have been all over the desert country and avoided rushing until now. Too old to
camp and planned to be in BH on the day of travel. Such is life.
We have 3 days at
Tibooburra so there is plenty to see then return on the tar.
Thanks again for everyones help.
Cheers

If you leave early morning it is do-able in a day. We have done Tiboburra to Corona rd in a day leaving late and stopping a few times. If you need road info then
Packsaddle Roadhouse is you best bet. Now if you need to
camp on the way there is a new
camp ground near Teita and there is also a Station stay at Eldee. Teita station is new and it isn't marked on Exploreoz but has
toilets. It is now a park.

Thanks Ivan,
It's about 2 weeks yet so I will
check road conditions at
Tibooburra. At the moment track repairs are going on.
Thanks for the
Packsaddle tip, we were planning to drop in.
Our situation is camping is off the agenda due to father time. After the Canning, Kimberleys,
Cape York, The Simpson, Tassey West Coast etc etc and 77yrs
young, we now have little flexibility.
If the news is doable near the time we will go down the fence rather than the boring tar getting away early.
Thanks again
Cheers
