After checking WA road and track condition reports I don’t have the info I need. We leave Alice Springs this Friday travelling along the Gary Junction Hwy to Kunawaratji , then I want to backtrack a little and head south along the Gary Highway to Windy Corner. From there along the Talawanna Track to say Newman, ultimately to Marble Bar.
Has anyone traveled these tracks recently who can advise current conditions.
We are in a suitably equipped 150 Prado towing a Tvan.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

We came west along the Gary Junction Road 2-3 weeks ago. We thought it was fine.
Fuel was $2.70 at Kiwirrkurra and $3.10 at Kunawarritji. Both have well stocked shops.
Cheers,
Peter

Last ,year when we travelled the Talawanna Track from Windy corner to CSR it was overgrown and rough. Completely different to the west side of the Talawanna Track

Thanks Pedro, I wonder if anyone has travelled fromWindy Corner to CSR recently, I’m really keen to learn whether there are issues, with water crossing the CSR, ie flooding there etc.

Thanks again

It may also be prudent to prepare your vehicle for long stretches of spinifex seed-heads on the Talawanna Tk.

Thanks George, for now I’ve decided to get info from Kunawarritji and make a decision then.
Good to have your input as well

RobnJane, we were in the same situation in 2018. Even at Kunawarritji still no-one could tell us whether the western end of the East Talawanna would be passable as a result of flooding.

We left Kunawaritji with sufficient fuel to backtrack if we needed to, but in the end didn't get as far as Windy Corner due to fires. We later learned that we would not have been able to get through the wet boggy areas prior to where the Talawanna crosses the CSR.

Instead we went west from Kunawarritji, via Punmu to Telfer & than south (Through the Telfer mine) down to Karlamilyi NP & later onto the western Talawanna throught to Newman.

That was a great alternative, very enjoyable drive.

It was at Desert Queen Baths, where Canning travellers were detouring because of flooding on the Canning, that we learned we would not have stood a chance to have made it through on our initially planned route.

We were also towing a Tvan.

Thanks Cuppa, our plans changed as a result of serious family illness so we are on our way home.

We were lucky to spend 3 nights at Jupiter Well before we received the news that changed our plan.

A trip for another day

Thanks again,
