With the demise of the Thuraya satellite I've been looking at the options.
All of the available options in regard to other satellite
services are too expensive for me.
I have a Spot device and a
HF Radio which I think should meet my emergency needs.
My question is about a HF antennae, I have a codan auto tune which is quite heavy.
Are there lighter versions available?
I have purchased a 2023 D-Max and I don't think there is any where to mount such a bulky antennae.

G'day William. I see you have mentioned this concept before. Perhaps tell people THE TYPE OF DMAX you have so people can advise/ give suggestions. Is it dual cab with a tub? Dual cab with tub and canopy? Is it a single cab with a tray? Is it a single cab with long canopy on the tray? Is it an extra cab with tray or canopy? Etc.
There has to be plenty of options and perhaps, from my point of view, if it is a dual cab/tub/ canopy and it has an internal.frame, which is usable as mounting points for a folding bracket, it would be a solution.

Hi RMD,
Your correct I should have been more descriptive.
It's a dual cab with a tub.
Its the weight of the arial which concerns me.
Most times I tow a Jayco outback as
well which might help with the answers.

G'day William.
Now the next question is: Do you have just
the tub OR a canopy too? If just
the tub I would be mounting to the headboard/frame with a suitable bracket and possibly braced to the rear to handle any stress loading.
The actual bracket would have a hinge at the rear so it could easily be folded rearwards by the removal of a cross lock pin for when low access is required. As long as you have the active section of the antennae above the vehicle it should perform
well.
If a canopy, that would need some internal frame to suitable points and some sealed holes in the canopy so the unit is held securely to internal frame and still have the external bracket and fold down feature.
I added a frame to inside my canopy to handle additional units on the canopy outer. Mostly solar panels though.

RFI don’t appear to make multi tap aerials anymore?
TERLIN still make their Outbacker unit, it seems.

I don't think Terlin operates any more used to be at every 4wd camping expo in WA until around 2010
Not many genuine two way radio specialists here either most deal with mining high tier network systems in WA

I'm assuming your autotune antenna is the large Codan 9350.
If you still want to go down the auto tune path, have a look at the Codan 3040. Auto tuning done electronically and takes up a lot less real estate with out the weight of the 9350.
