Its about time people were forced to carry an epirb/plb/spot..whatever. I shake my head in amazement that in this day and age people still lack common sense.

I for one would not think to bring the plb on an evening stroll along the various virtually suburban picnic areas on the Murrumbidgee River around Canberra, yet there is no mobile service, even though in places you can see Telstra Tower on Black Mountain. Similarly for the many touristy coastal NPs around the country, yet I guess one should. Mine lives in the glove box of the 4wd. Best practice would be to have another for the day pack, but then Murphy would have a say and the day that it was needed I would have the camera bag on my back instead.

I always hate to see young children out in areas where there are few or no other people, accompanied by only one adult. Precisely because of the possibility of this sort of scenario.
