How many people still go to their local for a beer or a meal? Our town has gone from seven pubs to one!

I imagine we are are like many , and only visit the pubs when we are travelling. And only when we can walk back to the camper.
Times have changed !!
Cheers

I used to live in
Castlemaine where we had around half a dozen pubs. Old style and welcoming for the average working class bloke. Now there are less pubs that are open at all sort of strange days and hours. They cater for the yuppies and latte sippers. Whole town has changed due to the influx of Melbournites. Pubs are no longer country type but yuppie type. Give me an outback pub anyday over these new modern soul less
places.

The coppers have taken the fun out of driving. 005 is 3 cans of XXXX, I'm nowhere near pissed after 3 cans but the law says I am. Remember the good old days when you got up Sunday morning and went outside to see if your car was there. Mind you , I lived on a
farm in the North Eastern Wheatbelt of WA. Not much traffic around. The 1 pub in my old town has had a resurgence, new owners, good meals and the district is behind them.

It isn't whether you think you are pissed or not! It is the FACT that after .05 your reaction time and ability is far less, ie IMPAIRED, even if you think it isn't. Smoking a SINGLE cigarette increases reaction time about double for a while for a human, but after the fag people think they are better. Double or worse reaction time is a real KILLER if trying to avoid ANYTHING or even deciding to brake in time. I tested people years ago for reaction time with a fairy sophisticated 10 event
test on a
test machine. One who had just had a ciggy scored far worse than everyone else. UNTIL the ciggy nico wore off and then their reaction time was less than half it was earlier but still not good and normal. Much the same for grog.
The Police may know something!

Soon you will be able to tell the trendy pubs by the Teslas parked outside, where you used to park, but now they will be charging stations to refuel the cars while their planet saving (misguided) owners are refuelling themselves on the new menu.

You are correct and they spread like a disease from large cities and see something quaint and unusual then set about changing it to be like what they left behind because they don't assimilate to their new surrounds.. There is a religion which does the same.

The equivalent in the ACT are the clubs, they are dying off, when the pokies go it will get worse. Courtesy of the wowser founding father of
Canberra, King O'Malley there are only I think three pubs in whole territory.

A pub in a nearby town got purchased by a city couple and it is now closed. Didn't last a year. The local community is trying to buy it

Maybe the pub was brought for the poker machine licenses.
It happened a lot in rural N.S.W

Still go for a beer ( just got back from a few beers now)
The thing I don’t like is the prices they are charging now both for the beer and food. The prices are comparable to a lot of restaurants where you get proper service and the meals and beverages brought to your table not to mention better quality food for the money
Love a good country pub though when on the road

Couldn’t agree more, They all think they’re restaurants & charge accordingly. We were in a hotel for 10 years.

Our town still has 4 pubs which don’t do too bad during the tourist season, but struggle through the off season. They counter this by reducing hours and remaining closed on quiet days, like Mon-Tues. The festive season sees most of them close for 4-6 weeks, with only takeaway bottle sales available.
Meals are a big draw card, with plenty of variety at most of them. Even vegans are catered for LOL. One pub regularly does up to 300 meals/night, especially while the
grey folk are evident.
Don’t see police very often, but Friday nights are always big. A few Hahn Premium Light are a good choice if you don’t want to walk
home.

Just too damn expensive to drink at bars nowadays. Even the youth find it cheaper to get a buzz on illegal narcotics, than it is to drink alcohol.

.
New cop arrived in town and figured he could get some brownie points by hiding in the back corner of the pub
carpark.
Sure enough, about closing time a customer staggered out of the bar and headed for his car. Dropped his keys and fell over while picking them up. Made it to the car and spent 5 minutes unlocking the door. Climbed in and switched on the headlights, tried again and got the wipers before finally firing up the motor. Stalled it backing out but managed to eventually find his way to the exit.
The cop licked his lips and slowly followed him down the road, switched on the red & blues and pulled him over. Strolled back to the punter and with a grin said "Good evening driver, blow into this for me will you?"
The driver looked at him blearily as he puffed away while several other cars came out of the pub and passed them. With a confidant gaze the copper peered at the breathalyser and stared astonished at a zero reading! "How come it's zero?" he gasped…. you were behaving as drunk as a coot.
"Well", said the driver, It's like this…….."tonight it was my turn to be the decoy"!
EDIT: Just thought a bit of levity was needed here.
