Absolutely incredible.
All are really bad but I think they are worse from the top down…1-2-3.

All depends on what you expect the chains to do ????
I would assume it is a joke ….. but who knows?
Cheers

Ya got ripped off Bill. Those chains are OLD chains not new ones at all. Which manufacturer fits OLD chains to a NEW VAN.
The rest of it looks quite ok from a distance.
Can you supply the rego number of your van so we can overtake ASAP if seen on the road. I will write it on my visor the be sure to be sure.

Mistake is so obvious. The shackle MUST be painted yellow. The same as the mandatory red paint for recovery points. The weekend warriors will be very upset at the lack of paint.. I,d also put the pin with the eye on top. A lot safer (even though it will fall south again.). You have one very knowledgable person helping you.....

Thanks for your help and the comments.
It was joke!
I know better than to hook up like that.
But, yes, the other mistakes are a bit obvious too.
However, perhaps we have helped others who may have said, "What's wrong with that!"
cheers

Hi bbuzz,
For those who might have said “what’s wrong with that”, perhaps you should spell it out.
Macca.

Well Macca,
1, The 'P' clip is on backwards. the outer section should be to the right side.
2. The shackle is upside down.
3. The chains are oversized for that shackle.

Not a Rated Shackle
Each Chain needs a shackle
Shackle pin not screwed in tightly

Chain not Galvanised therefore susceptible to rust.

G'day Bill.
I've found in the past it pays to include a :) in such posts to indicate the gravity of the subject. :)

Hooking up to the lynch pin is useless it will just pull it out under pressure which will allow the tongue to come out.
I was always taught to cross chains so if the hitch comes off it won't dig into the ground and jackknife the towed trailer.
There should be a D shackle for each piece of chain which is affixed to the towbar strong points to allow the crossing of the chains.
I certainly hope it was a joke and I'm a novice.
