Members of our family are travelling with us this year and they are wondering what are the best campers? Two adults, 3 children for 23 days from Darwin to Broome and doing the Gibb. Hoping the oz members can offer some advice.

Hi Lloyd,

What do you mean by Rooftop Camper? Are you referring to a Rooftop Tent, or a camper trailer, or a slide on camper for a ute?

Lloyd,

For a family of four, if you are going with RTT, I think you will need two vehicles. I don’t think a single RTT will accommodate 5 people even if three are kids.

Buy a cheapy (maybe second hand) and flog it off when you get home, or maybe you will like it and want to keep it?

Five people of any size is pretty cosey in a roof tent. A cheap ground tent would make more sense.

I would not sleep in a tent on the ground anywhere in croc country.
You may, if you choose.
Croc attack.

Thanks for thoughts on our travel with family. There are vehicles with two rooftop tents. Have anyone heard about Campervan Village and their 4x4 Desert Sands setup.

Try some campers like Jayco Expanda or Toyota Hiace, spacious ones.
