Hi Everyone. I hope there is someone on here who can help me with this. I have ordered a Goldstream Wing offroad camper. I havnt got it yet. They say there is no option for a dust vent in the ceiling. Does anyone own one of these or know someone . I need to know whether dust is a problem getting in. If it is a problem are there any fixes either easy or difficult

Despite that they do not offer one s an option, I would be surprised if you could not retrofit one if you found you had dust problems.

If there is a dust problem, why would you not expect the manufacturer to fix it?

I 100% agree with you. The dealership is an hour from home and I don't really want the hassle. Hey I'm old and getting older. Lol

Pretty sure our Wing 3 (2006 vintage) has one in the roof. Think I used it once and it filled up with dust... never opened it again! On dirt roads we use to cover up the the vent in the door by taping a plastic bag over it. That seemed to keep most of the dust out.

I wonder if the newer ones have better seals?

Don't stress about it Greggy!

I have a Goldstream Vacationer III with a "dust vent" on the roof and can state that it just doesn't work.
Employed it once and filled the van up with dust. Never again.

I have such a vent on the Colorado's ARB canopy and this does work. Use it all the time when offroad, but for some reason, the caravan pressurisation vent just sucks the dust in. I don't have a problem with dust in the van anyway, without using the vent.

The one on the ute is a fair bit ahead of the dust cloud, a trailer isnt.

Yep, you got it in one.
No pressurization vent is going to work in those circumstances.

I agree with the other replies re those scapper vents. However, there are pressurized systems available.
carafan pressure system There are others on the market.

Wow Thanks. That's a good alternative. I have decided to cover door and Fridge vents on the outside while travelling. This is a great idea. I think looking at this pressurising unit covering the vents would still help.

Dont buy the cheap shitty ones online that use a computer fan. You can buy cabin pressure systems designed for Dozers that have Donaldson filters on them that would do a far better job.

The “carafan” type vents fit into an existing rooftop hatch opening. From memory when we had a Wing 3, it did not have a roof top hatch. Also from memory, we did not have much of a dust issue, and we did not cover any of the vents.

If you decide to get a dust suppression system, get a powered one or look at making your own with Donaldson filter and fan etc, can be done pretty cheaply and effectively

Greggy
It is highly likely the airvents do work quite well as they do on other vehicles, but with a Low height roof the airvent if fitted, as they used to have,, will be in the VACUUM envelope created by the tow vehicle and subsequently the air vent will be acting as an exhaust /exit point, instead of a positive pressure inflow. If the "Wing" roof was higher, or tow vehicle is very low height, all ok. Maybe a similar vent will do the job IF it has an extended neck intake, only extended for dust conditions so it's opening is higher than the vacuum envelope of the tow vehicle. Race cars tailgate to get a vacuum effect and their bodies are quite slim and low.

A streamer attached to the roof of van will visually reveal the vacuum effect.
