Article Comment: Traveller App

I have been using the app now for approx 10 Months. I love it but had several issues with it in the beginning. (Mostly not knowing what I was doing) anyway with help from Michelle and David sorted most things out. I recommend it to all my friends. The one thing I would like is when using the app the battery indicator is not visible, to see it I need to play with the phone but with the new cameras catching us touching your phone it not worth it. "Don't do it" expensive and lots of points. Anyway is it possible to investigate if this is possible. I have a Iphone 13 Pro max and its in a holder mounted on the windscreen.

That’s odd because the battery indicator is still visible on the ipad. Maybe you could ask siri ?

Hi Pig,

With your small iPhone screen you may well be better off leaving it on full screen, as Wicket has suggested use Siri.

I have my iPad setup to full screen, I use Siri to check my battery level, I also use voice control (different to Siri) to switch Apps, zoom in and out etc, so no screen touching for me.

Wicket, you could set your iPad up for full screen, so you won’t have the battery indicator, signal level etc if you wish to.

Regards

Go to Settings, General and there’s a button for status bar visible.
Turning that on might help

Cheers

It is not illegal to “touch” your phone if it is in a hands free cradle, and you are using it for navigation.

Hi Macca.

I check the rules for mobiles use in cares. see this link

https://www.allianz.com.au/news-and-articles/car-insurance-articles/using-mobile-phone-while-driving-laws.html#:~:text=Mobile%20phone%20road%20rules&text=You%20can%20only%20use%20your,Use%20audio%20functions.

Its illegal to touch you phone whilst in the car, even if you are stopped. You must be parked. Phones can only be used for making and receiving call, Audio use and navigation. but you cannot touch it, found out you cannot even have it in your lap. (I will stop doing that). Fines are huge and severe point as well and vary in each state. NSW is $352 and 5 points where Qld is $ 1033 and 4 points. Not sure if double demerits applies to phone use, if it does thats 10 pints in NSW

However thank you for your help in responding to my question.

regards
Pig

Hi Pig,

I would humbly suggest you read the rules relating to Mobile Phones on the various State Transport Authority websites, and not an insurance company website. After all they write these rules.

As I stated, it is not illegal to touch your mobile phone if it is in an appropriate hands free cradle when using it for navigation purposes. Even the link you provided states that.

Gordon B5,

Yes, that is covered in the rule. People need to read the actual rules relating to mobile phones etc, and not necessarily take what they read on Social Media or in some news article.

Well I humbly apologise, read the NSW rules and to my surprise you can touch your phone as you say if its in its cradle if using Navigationand making and answering the phone.
(Not sure how you would prove it if a camera took a photo)
As I said before always willing to learn something each day.
Thank you for pointing this out.

Hi Pig,
I really only use EOT while touring, so it's on for five or more hours. Consequently I've always had a charging cable connected and the state of charge is not relevant. Typically what would your battery be at the end of a day's travel? Power use seems very device specific, in the Android world anyway. I had a cheap Lenovo M8, that needed a 2.1A charger to stop it going flat. My Nokia phone and replacement Samsung tablet hold charge much better, I still like to get out of the vehicle with a full battery though.
