In the Latest Issue of 4x4 Australia (August Edition). They say that the new (facelift) Nissan Patrol will be in showrooms in September. They also say that the 4.2TD will no longer be sold as it does not meet the new 2006 Emission Standard. They also say that a new 6 cylinder 4.5TD is rumoured to replace it.
Anyone else hear about this?
Cheers
John

I had previously heard that the 4.2 was on its way out. But I hadn't heard what the replacement would be.
Hopefully the 4.5 is as bullet proof as the 4.2 and with an auto option.

JohnZA,
When I was in the Nissan showroom a few weeks ago, I asked the question about an upgrade, the sales person had not heard of any motor changes and said that although the old 4.2TD donk was old, it was proven and he though Nissan would stick with it for a bit longer.
I'm glad that I've got a new truck coming with the old TD42 motor in it, wouldn't like to pick up a new 4.5TD that hadn't had much of a run...
Cheers
Chris.

Agree with the above. For those of us that own one already the newer model with a newer donk could help keep the resale price of the 4.2 up. The
pic looks like an STL in silver?

I quizzed the local dealer about an update 2 months ago, knowing one was on the way. Blank look, "what update". Salesmen good at playing dumb when they want to. Far more info on forums such as this one

Join two of the 3litre 4cyl's together. At least there'd be commonality in heads, pistons, rods, injectors etc. Must be cheaper than retooling for everything. The yanks successfully managed to wack 3 and 5 x 6cyl Chev engines together in WW2. Powered all sorts of gear from boats to tanks. Different I know but....
There is absolutely no substitute for cubic inches and understressed ones at that. Torque could be measured in Newton Kilometres.

Well Interesting reading here guys,
But after the disasterous introduction of the GU, I'll wait a couple of years before i even think of trading my ever reliable GQ 4.2 DT in.
I hate that word .."overheating", just glad i sorted
mine out.

I read in a mag (can't remember which one) that a 4.5 TD6 was on the way. Basically it's one and a half of the 3.0 TD motors joined together. Hopefully there will be some good runout deals on the 4.2 coming up.
