Hello all, a very very long time since I have posted here.
I'm looking at updating my 2014 Ford
Ranger 3.2L 5cyl auto with no DPF. I had a look at the new Ford
Ranger and though very nice the prices are up there. To get an XLS like what I have is $60k with a towbar but that is with a 4cyl engine. To get the V6 you need to get the XLT and that is $70k with a towbar.
So I looked around at other brands and everything is right up there apart from Chinese utes and the Musso which is NOT Chinese but South Korean like the Kia and Hyundai. It's not the sexiest beast on
the block but it doesn't look as polarising as the older models. It has a 2.2L and 6sp Asin auto (in Pajero's and almost bullet proof). It drove nice, didn't have the power of the
Ranger but got up to speed no probs. Only noticed the lack of power when I booted it on the fwy to overtake. And the best part it's only $37800 or $39500 with a towbar. What's peoples experiences and thoughts?
Cheers,
Leroy

My brother has a Ssangyong Musso & keeps telling me how good they are. He retired from auto electrics at 45 and is now a builder. Tows a bit of gear around and pulls a trailer up to his
shack on the river quite regularly, has never had a problem to date. sorry I don't know how many Ks he has on it now.

One of the few twin cabs based on a cut down wagon so inside and back
seat is subsequently plush - and big. Available in swb and coil springs or lwb and leafs. Disc rear brakes (cut down wagon). If I was in the market I’d be
test driving one. They would have to be the most underrated Ute getting around. My neighbours have 2 lwb and they love them.
Well under $50k fully fitted out. Being a Korean made vehicle is a big plus these days. They build them
well.

"and the Musso which is NOT Chinese but South Korean like the Kia and Hyundai."
I would not be hanging my hat on that observation with the past history of Ssangyong Musso. I would be looking at Korean, Chinese and Ssangyong Musso in that order.
I would be looking at Mahindra (Indian) and LDV. LDV is a continuation of a
Leyland DAF Vehicles model built in China, the basic engineering is British.

you're replying to a post saying something about the past history of a company with no facts.
Then you make a stupid reply that doesn't make any sense to my question.

I was answering your stupid statement. Of course all history is past history. Do you have any knowledge of how they will perform in the future All the Musso owners I have known have suffered much grief. The earlier ones had motors that pegged out at around 90,000 km. The later ones have had gearbox failures. I have not encountered anyone on my travels who knows of anyone who has had a good one, when the subject of Musso comes up anyone who knows of someone towing with a Musso will come up with sad tales.
Musso is definitely on the bottom of my list.

Asking about the history is not a 'stupid statement', it's a question and you still haven't answered it.
Musso has been mentioned here but I'm not hearing any sad tales. 7year warranty so they obviously are confident in their product. Please tell me more about all the musso owners you know and their experiences.

The GWM Canon drives really
well and has everything if you're looking in that class. A 7 year unlimited km warranty as
well.

Peter,
Your link is broken.
Have a look at
this thread to see how to do it so it will work every time.
I have fixed your link because now that I have posted a follow-up you won't be able to edit.
Cheers

The TickTock link worked for me_
It's not just GWM that can't supply parts. I have a friend who says his daughter has a fairly new BMW that requires a new part for a gearbox. She has had to purchase a cheap second hand vehicle to tide her over as the vehicle has been off the road for a few months and there is no timeframe for a new one.

Yes, the
Tik Tok link works.
But before it was edited by a mod (me) to make it work it was like this
https://www.tiktok.com/@motive_mechanical/video/7125670066129095938
which doesn't work.

I live in the NT and have a friend who has one. Only know what he has told me and he loves it. He is a keen fisherman and it has got him everywhere he wants to go. Trouble free. I looked at the specs and it is now powerful by todays standards.
My mechanic has a Mahindra and swears by it. It has less power than the Musso.
