Has anyone used one with success? We need a queen size mattress (bed in a box like) that we can roll up.
Koala is an option but the reviews are less than great! We want to use the mattress in the
home when we arent out camping in our van (which has a queen mattress base)
Keen to know what people have used
Thankyou

We had Zempire matts before, they weren't anywhere near as good as we'd need. Nor could we use them in the house. I can't imagine the ones you suggested would be much better.
Looking for a proper queen foam mattress

No probs. Living up north, cooler mattresses are a factor. I know that a comfortable night is important. Sure folks here will be able to recommend a mattress that suits your needs, it's worth it!

Why do you need to roll it up, if its either going to be in use in the van or house?
We went through the roll up phase when in our tent but now an inner spring mattress lives in the camper.
We found that a good quality inflatable was much easier and takes up a lot less room when stowed.

For transport, we dont want it unrolled in the van because we have size constraints when we are going to/from
camp site. Its only rolled out when in the house or when in use in the van (and all our stuff is out)

Fair enough.
Rolling up a foam mattress is a pain, it takes 2 people to get any worth while size reduction and it needs a lot of space to do it, even then it is still a sizeable bit of kit.
Self inflating matresses can be reduced in size quite a lot if you have a decent vac pump but once back in their bag will expand over time and you need to vac them out again to get them out of the bag.
Basically they are a 100mm foam mattress with a bit more cussioning from the sealed outer cover, more or less an air mattress full of foam rubber, expensive and dont last long before they start leaking.

The Exped self inflator mattresses have
check valves so that once deflated they don't re-inflate. They also cannot start to reinflate as you manipulate them during deflation. And they also have additional safety caps on the inflator/deflator ports that you use once you're finished. You don't NEED a vacuum pump to deflate them, though it might be easier if you had one.
Because of the
check valves and safety caps they don't reinflate in the bag. Nor do they deflate during use.
We use two to create a queen mattress in our Karavan and have never been more comfortable.

Kris,
I’ve got a double bed 6” mattress in an alloy canopy, and it is a compromise arrangement. We rarely use the canopy these days, so unlikely to change to an innerspring, but do have a double inflater which would be a far better option.
I find the foam ones gradually compress, until your hip is contacting the bed base. And to roll one up, they’d be the size of a 44gal drum.
Suggest you purchase the thickest grade you can find.
Bob

Ended up with an Ikea dual memory foam, 20kg (12kg lighter than a spring mattress) 1 year change of mind warranty, nice and firm and can be rolled (albeit with difficulty)
Ticks all the boxes!
