Howdy
I saw this idea on a 4x4 video the other day. It had never occurred to me to put a swag on a stretcher bed.
I've just used either one,not both at the same time
Stretcher bed
. We are in the tropics so usually use mesh stretcher beds for airflow. They work
well and are kind of comfortable enough. Swags are great when it's cooler, but if the ground is uneven,
rock, roots etc, not so good. But if the weather is cooler and the ground uneven...., this might just be the answer. The thing is, our Coleman beds have quite a hollow, which is normally fine, but not sure it would be so great with a swag on top. The one shown in my dodgy photo (ignore the bottom ), looks very taut.
Anyone know what brand it is? Does anyone use this idea when camping?
Cheers
Lyndon

G'day Lyndon
I've been swaggin' it for about 40 years and just threw my swag on the ground wherever I thought a good spot. Then about ten years ago I watched a mate put his swag on a stretcher and bagged the crap out of him for being soft - he then explained to me how much easier it was to get up at 3 a.m. for that unwanted pee. Realizing I'm not getting any younger and also needed to exit my swag about 3 a.m. I bought an Oztent stretcher the exact same size as my trusty old DB swag.
Well - what a fantastic decision that was, getting in and out of my new bedding set up was so much easier and so much more comfortable as
well. Now all of my travel buddies are doing the same thing !
I would recommend getting a sturdy weight rated stretcher to avoid any late night disasters lol
All the best
Gazz

Been doing it for years. No sand or cat heads in the swag when rolling it. Very comfy. That looks like a darche combo.

Spikey burrs. The worst are the three cornered ones that readily
puncture bike tyres, let alone camper floors, air mattresses and swags.

Cat head, goat head, tripods, same nasty things to me.

Figured out a few years ago I was getting too old to sleep in the ground.
Well, too old to get up off the ground.
Darche dome swag on a stretcher is as good as bed at
home.
Cheers.

Lol,
well I still do push up and sit ups each day, so haven't quite go to that stage yet. Uneven ground, rocks etc are leading me this way.
Cheers

Found a great ex-army stretcher at the
Darwin Dump recycling years ago. Now I always lay my swag on that stretcher. Plus string a mossie net over when sleeping in the open. When down south I put the stretcher and swag in a dome tent. Part privacy part keeps the rain out.

My swag is too wide for the stretchers I have, so I’ve graduated to 2 sleeping bags for desert trips. Sleep in one and throw the other over it, like a doona, warm as, in temps down to -3° in the Simpson.
