Does anyone know whether the vehicle owned by the family who were stranded in the
Simpson Desert a few weeks ago, has been recovered? Would be interesting to know the recovery cost, and who paid :-)

Vehicle is now at Mt Dare. No mention of cost. Would be a lot.

Looks like they intend to sell it once it is
home. Hopefully, not just because they made a mistake.

Yes it has been recovered and according to the online article the family will be selling the vehicle. Which makes you think the recovery cost was pretty steep !

.
When Dave Cox was still at Mt Dare Hotel he told me that a Simpson recovery would cost upwards of $12k depending on location and difficulty of recovery. Probably much higher since 2010.
The Zavros vehicle was not in a difficult location and was able to be driven out so costs were somewhat minimised. Had it been in the middle of
the desert with 500 dunes either way and had to be rescued unpowered then it could have cost
well over $12k.
Perhaps the Zavros couple have tired of RV life after their incident. There may have been interesting discussion in the truck when waiting to be rescued! It did however serve its primary objective.

Even if it cost $10k thats bugger all considering the price of the vehicle. As vehicles are fetching a premium at the moment he would probably get every dollar, and then some, that went into the vehicle and the trips.

Long trip but based on Stephen's post it looks like a relatively inexpensive snatch strap and drive away job.

Thanks folks. My curiosity has been satisfied ... clearly it was an expensive lesson but with a happy ending, and a few red faces :-)

Was not a hard rescue at all. 8 hours total travel and 2 hours to recover. One days work. Blokes insurance is paying for it all as
well. Smart man having insurance that covered the area he was in.

Should have been relatively cheap but based on this I doubt it:

Yeah, that worked, Bazooka.
Don’t recall this incident, just on 3 years ago. Being at a similar time as the recent evacuation, wouldn’t be surprised if SA authorities extend the closed season for the Simpson?
Have done 2 crossings in Oct, not really as enjoyable as the winter months. Can imagine November being a lot worse.
