Rock off towing brush strip

I have a brush type mud flap across the rear of the Ranger.

I changed the springs on the back of the ute and forgot to reset the brush height and busted a rear window on the canopy on a great dirt road near Cue.
The brush should be touching the ground when stationary as it will flatten back with the air flow when driving.
Something I forgot and paid for lol

Oops! Was up that way 3weeks ago, a lot to see and hope to get back up there again to finish intended trip in mid September. In general do you think the brush type flap works or better with solid rubber?

I think the brush type , when set up correctly, works better than the solid rubber as it will let air flow through it a little , where the solid rubber blocks air flow from under the ute, then there's the arguement that blocking air flow heats the rear diff too much.

Stone stomper.....end of story.

All of the others, you are just wasting your money.

I used brushes on my Cruiser wagon for our Kimberley trip and it worked a treat. Reasons I went with the brushes;
1. they absorb the impact of rocks and not deflect them like rubber flaps
2. they greatly reduce the quantity and force of rocks that are getting flicked into the camper. A stone stomper protects the front of the trailer and stops rocks bouncing back into the car window but don't do anything to stop the underneath of the trailer getting blasted
3. they allow airflow

Whilst these type (rubber or brush) of stone protectors ‘work’ for the user, they kick up a lot of extra dust & I believe present a greater rock flicking risk to passing vehicles, both making passing far more risky. I hate driving anywhere near cars fitted with them. Stone Stomper is a far better design & not anti-social.

I understand the stone stomper had a similar idea on the adventure camper, but does not stop under the camper getting damaged. Rapid80 that’s the feedback I was looking for, so will try some will post results next trip!! Thanks also cuppa interesting.

I have just fitted a Rock Off brush strip to the rear of the Patrol and also under the camper trailer to limit the stone damage. They are both set 100 - 200 mm above the road surface, as recommended by the Busy Bee Brush co in Victoria. I bought two 2m lengths with 300 mm long bristles at around $400 delivered to Newcastle. I have yet to try it out on bush roads but don’t expect to be throwing up lots of dust and stones affecting other drivers since the brush does not sweep the road surface and absorbs the energy of the stones rather than just deflecting them as solid rubber strips would.
The Stone Stomper stops stones from rising above the draw bar but I cannot see it limiting the underside damage to the camper trailer and that is why I put a brush strip under the camper’s forward sloping stone guard.

I’ve got a Stone stomper, and like it.
Just reading these comments, thinking a stone stomper style net to protect vulnerable areas under any Towed vehicle could be a great solution for protecting underneath , and easy to access anything if needed.
Anyone done that?
