Well done kimberleybloke! Spot on. Heard it's taken a bit of a bashing of late and not in such good condition any longer.

Now owned by a Chinese Company, last time I visited this old building Peter & Pat Lacy were still there so cant say what condition the old building is in now.

Yes, I did know Peter & Pat moved on a few years ago. It was Pat who pointed out the homestead to us. Last time we were there, the front wall was disintegrating. I see you're a Kimberley local....my parents used to live in Derby years ago while Dad worked for the Main Roads Department along the Gibb and around Fitzroy Crossing. Years later I lived in Kununurra. Either way, you're in a top part of the country!

Whats this about owned by a chinese company? When did that happen? What has changed access wise? Ask because the Munja track is my all time favorite wild track. Had a brilliant time on it in 2015. Hope to get back there asap.

The Lacey’s sold up I think around 2-3 years ago. Access to the station hasn’t altered much with some upgrades to amenities happening last year. For the Munja Track though, things hadn’t really changed until this year. Even without covid closing things up everywhere, it had been decided earlier this year to sadly shut the track until further notice. Nobody knows exactly what that means but we hope things get sorted out and it can open again next year.

Maybe Ann and Rick Jane (the BEST people) don't want to spend the effort to open it up after every wet or maybe the relationship with Elizabeth Station has changed?
That would mean the Bachsten Camp is also closed?

One of our favourite tracks too . We spent a couple of weeks along there in 2005.

Here's what I found about the details announcing the Munja Track/Bachstens Camp closure:

BACHSTEN CREEK BUSH CAMP AND MUNJA TRACK CLOSURE 2020 SEASON

The Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation, which is the Corporation representing the Native Title Interest of the Ngarinyin people, has recently acquired the Bachsten Creek Bush Camp, which sits astride the Munja Track in the heart of the Wilinggin Country and our Indigenous Protected Area.

This acquisition of Bachsten Camp has been a long term goal of the Ngarinyin people as a way of taking responsibility for all of the Wilinggin Indigenous Protected Area. Wilinggin would like to thank the WA State Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, the Commonwealths Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation and Ric and Ann Jane and family for the significant effort put into successfully making this happen.

The Ngarinyin people have decided to undertake the development of a Management Plan for the Munja Track and area which is expected to take up to 12 months during which time the Munja Track and access to the IPA, specifically Bachsten Camp and Walcott Inlet, will be closed to all visitors and tourist until further notice.

Wilinggin Aboriginal Corporation apologises for any inconvenience that this decision has caused for people planning to visit the North Kimberley and the Gibb River Road during this coming season. The Ngarinyin people recognise that the opportunity to travel and visit the Munja Track and Walcott Inlet is a very popular tourism destination for people visiting the North Kimberley and the Gibb River Road, however, the Ngarinyin are committed to the long term protection and sustainability of their Indigenous Protected Area and have committed to the process of developing an appropriate Management Plan for the Munja Track Area that will allow for future tourism access in a managed and sustainable manner.
